PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Steamboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Chuvalo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steamboat comes to the cage accompanied by Lorde - Tennis Court. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Chuvalo!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steamboat shoots for a double leg takedown but Chuvalo sprawls well. He's pushed Steamboat's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A jab from Chuvalo misses.
Nice straight punches there by Chuvalo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Chuvalo.
Chuvalo jabs at Steamboat's body.
Chuvalo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Steamboat sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Chuvalo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Steamboat.
Steamboat shoots in looking for a takedown. Chuvalo tries to sprawl out of it but Steamboat keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chuvalo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chuvalo stuffs the takedown attempt from Steamboat. Steamboat gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricky Steamboat. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Steamboat shoots and misses
and Chuvalo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Ricky Steamboat has been cut.
Chuvalo lands with a nice body punch.
Steamboat fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chuvalo tries to counter by closing the distance.

Chuvalo changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Steamboat is breathing heavily.

and Chuvalo counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Chuvalo lands with a short shot to the head.
Chuvalo tries to throw a body punch but Steamboat avoids it by throwing Chuvalo back against the cage.

Chuvalo breaks the clinch.
Chuvalo feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Steamboats jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Chuvalo works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Chuvalo digs a good body shot into Steamboat's ribs.

Steamboat looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steamboat distracts Chuvalo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chuvalo pulls Steamboat in close to prevent any damage.
Chuvalo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Steamboat makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Chuvalo wants to get back to his feet but Steamboat is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've been hearing good reports from Steamboat's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Steamboat has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chuvalo wants to get back to his feet but Steamboat is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Chuvalo has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Animal House. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Steamboat is working Chuvalo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Chuvalo wants to stand up but Steamboat is controlling him.
Steamboat scores with a decent looking elbow strike.


Chuvalo is rocked!
Steamboat postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Chuvalo covers up, he's hurt! Steamboat keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Steamboat and the ref steps in to end the fight! Steamboat can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricky Steamboat!
