Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
32 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Renzo Alves ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dustin Davidson! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davidson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Davidson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Alves wants to sweep here but Davidson controlling him for the moment. Davidson trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom. Alves lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Alves trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alves throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Davidson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Alves has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Alves wants to control from the top but Davidson keeps moving. Alves throws a big elbow that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves throws a strike but Davidson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Davidson won't allow Alves to get back to his feet. Alves looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davidson is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Davidson's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Davidson tries to land a sweep but no joy. Alves is looking to work some ground and pound but Davidson has wrist control. Davidson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Davidson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Alves 's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Davidson keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully. Davidson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alves manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Davidson is sitting in close to Alves 's body. Alves has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Davidson is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Davidson is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Alves .
