Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Irvin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Endon Sezzer! The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Francis DeMontford and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Irvin shoots in and gets a takedown into Sezzer's guard. Irvin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Irvin stands up and waves to Sezzer to follow him. Irvin drives through with a takedown into guard. Sezzer looking to control.
Irvin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sezzer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Irvin, into his guard. Sezzer postures up.
Sezzer looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Sezzer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Irvin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sezzer missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Irvin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sezzer controls the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Irvin looking for a sweep. Not yet Irvin, not yet. Irvin working for a triangle but Sezzer defends it easily.
Irvin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sezzer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Irvin wants to sweep here but Sezzer controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sezzer slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Irvin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sezzer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sezzer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Irvin working a defensive guard here.
Sezzer connects with a couple of short punches. Sezzer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Irvin swivels though and keeps the full guard. Sezzer sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Irvin doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Sezzer paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Irvin - great work!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Paul Irvin! In defeat, Endon Sezzer stepped up to the mic, saying 'butt'.
