Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dave Tran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dave Tran could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Dan Iron's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dave Tran! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dan Iron! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tran slaps away a takedown attempt from Iron, before circling back to the center of the mat. Tran shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Iron but Iron pushes him off and we're back to square one. Iron only half commits to the counter leg kick. Iron attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Tran has been working on his balance at Better Than Cozad, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Iron. Iron lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Tran backs up against the cage.
Iron tries a head kick but it misses.
Tran shoots and misses and Iron counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Iron dives in and grabs Tran's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tran pushes down on Iron's head and hops out. Tran appears to be looking for a big counter. Tran stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tran wants it to stay on the feet. An attempted straight right counter from Tran misses the target. Dave Tran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Iron. Iron throws out a powerful jab. Horrible takedown attempt by Iron or perhaps it was just good defense by Tran, which made it look bad.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tran fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Iron sprawls well initially but Tran persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Tran throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Tran is nestled in close to Iron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Tran working Iron over with strikes. Tran wants to work for an arm triangle but Iron is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Tran prevents Iron from improving his position. Iron keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Iron really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tran lands a nice short elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tran connects with a nice short shot to Iron's temple. Nice strikes from Tran there. Tran throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Tran is nestled in close to Iron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Tran is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Tran lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Tran takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Tran lands with a punch from half guard.
Iron is rocked! Tran looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Iron with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Iron is still in real trouble! Can Tran finish him? Iron pushes Tran off looking to stand but Tran dives back in and keeps control.

Tran is taking a breather. Iron says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Tran is nestled in close to Iron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Iron tries to get to full guard but Tran has control of the leg. Iron looks winded!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tran scoring with strikes to the body and head. Tran is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Iron defends it well. Iron is trying to control but can't.
Tran scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Tran is controlling the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tran is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Iron is hurt! He's hurt bad - Tran fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Iron from any more punishment! Congratulations to Tran! Great finish!
