PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Tinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Nathan Diaz has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nathan Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Tinto!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz dives in and grabs Tinto's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tinto pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.
Tinto misses with a hook to the body
and Diaz counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tinto is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Tinto swings for the body but Diaz moves out of range.
Diaz scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Tinto takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Diaz takes a swing at Tinto's ribcage but misses.

Tinto throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tinto is in Diaz's guard.

Tinto takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Tinto works his way into side control.
Diaz regains half guard.
Tinto prevents Diaz from improving his position.
Diaz is refusing to be controlled, as Tinto sits in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tinto is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Diaz!
Diaz bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Tinto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Tinto keeps moving.

Our spies down at at The Bear's Den inform us that Tinto has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Tinto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Diaz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Diaz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Diaz throws an elbow that misses. Tinto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diaz's guard. Nice move by Tinto!

Diaz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tinto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Diaz has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Tinto off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Tinto changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Diaz checks a leg kick.
Diaz goes for a double leg but Tinto avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tinto continues to drive forward.

Diaz throws a lazy uppercut

and Tinto counters with a nice double leg into side control. Diaz won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tinto cracks Diaz with a big right hand but Diaz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circling - Tinto throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Diaz is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

and Diaz counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Tinto tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Diaz is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Diaz darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tinto but Tinto pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tinto shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Diaz pinned against the cage. Diaz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tinto avoids it really well and circles away.

Diaz will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The strikes coming from Tinto are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Tinto manages to reverse the position and now he's in Diaz's guard. Nice work there by Tinto.
