PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Fadzaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Take my hand as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Brian Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alan Fadzaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Jones!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fadzaev with a hook.
Fadzaev paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Jones misses with a kick to the body.
Fadzaev appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
The fighters circling - Fadzaev throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jones lands with a thumping leg kick.
Fadzaev with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Jones has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Fadzaev.
Jones throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
We've been informed that Jones has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Jones tries to land a front kick but Fadzaev steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Fadzaev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fadzaev avoids a kick to the body.
Fadzaev is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jones.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fadzaev. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.

Jones drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Fadzaev defends it well.

Fadzaev throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Jones cracks Fadzaev with a right hand to the side of the head.
Fadzaev misses with a straight left.
Jones takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Fadzaev fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jones looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Fadzaev throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jones avoids the body shot from Fadzaev.
Fadzaev throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Jones counters with a body kick that stops Fadzaev in his tracks momentarily.
Fadzaev fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jones lands with a straight right. Fadzaev didn't see that one coming.
Jones takes a shot to the body in his stride.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fadzaev keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Fadzaev throws a leg kick but Jones checks it.
Fadzaev lands a really nice looking cross but Jones seems unphased.
Jones slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Jones connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fadzaev throws a body shot but no joy.
Jones has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Fadzaev.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Fadzaev.
Fadzaev smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Some bone on bone action there as Fadzaev checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Jones misses with a body kick.
Fadzaev scores with the left hand. Jones knows he should have avoided that one.
Fadzaev misses with a looping right.
Fadzaev scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Fadzaev sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Jones works Fadzaev's body with a nice hook.
Jones moves out of range of the body kick.
Jones throws a body punch but Fadzaev moves out of range.
Fadzaev lands a slapping body shot.
Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fadzaev.
Fadzaev on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Jones. Jones obviously looking to wear him down.
Alan Fadzaev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fadzaev throws out the jab.

Fadzaev takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Fadzaev motions for Jones to come forward. Fadzaev throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Jones lands with a slapping head kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fadzaev cracks a nice hook into Jones's ribs.

and Fadzaev counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Jones has his foot on Fadzaev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fadzaev works his way back into a safe position though.

Fadzaev seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jones for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones shoots in and drives through. Fadzaev sprawls well.
Jones pivots, looking for a leg kick but Fadzaev is out of range and Jones settles back down.
It looked like Fadzaev wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fadzaev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.

Jones isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fadzaev stacks Jones on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fadzaev!
Jones is trying to escape the position but Fadzaev is controlling the position.

Fadzaev's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Jones gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Fadzaev checks a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Fadzaev swings for the body but Jones moves out of range.

Fadzaev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Fadzaev is now in Jones's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fadzaev is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jones is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fadzaev pulls his head out easily.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fadzaev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Fadzaev has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Brian Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fadzaev is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Fadzaev controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Fadzaev dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Fadzaev misses with a looping left.
Jones appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Fadzaev avoids a kick to the body.
Fadzaev tries to counter with a takedown but Jones is quick to defend against it.

and Fadzaev counters with a shoot takedown. Jones fights it but they end up in guard.

Fadzaev is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?

You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Fadzaev looks up at the clock and then as Jones takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Fadzaev smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Alan Fadzaev showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fadzaev has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
