Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Jacobs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rudi Careca! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Careca with a poor takedown and Jacobs counters with a flying knee. Nice. Jacobs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Jacobs is looking to clinch. Careca takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Careca shoots in looking for a takedown. Jacobs tries to sprawl out of it but Careca keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jacobs manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Careca fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jacobs appears to be looking for a big counter. Paul Jacobs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rudi Careca.
That's one minute gone in the round. Careca fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Jacobs leaves Careca with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jacobs swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. A head kick by Careca misses and Jacobs cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Jacobs clinches up with Careca and pushes him back against the cage. Jacobs prevents a takedown attempt there.
Jacobs tries to pull guard but Careca holds him up against the cage and eventually Jacobs drops back down to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Careca has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jacobs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Jacobs tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Careca just stands there and leans against the cage. Jacobs is defending well against a takedown attempt. Jacobs misses with a punch to the body.
Careca lands a takedown into guard.
Jacobs wants to get back to his feet but Careca passes into half guard.
Careca tries to pass to full mount but Jacobs defends it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Careca is nestled in close to Jacobs, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Careca is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Careca trying to control but he's not successful this time. Careca unloading with bombs! Jacobs keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jacobs is squirming around, avoiding Careca's attempts to control the action. Jacobs takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Careca throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Jacobs has his hands clasped together but Careca breaks the hold and Jacobs is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Careca!
