Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rich Perez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Tyson Jnr! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Topper Green.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tyson Jnr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Tyson Jnr tries to advance to mount but Perez denies him. Tyson Jnr with the ground and pound but Perez regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Tyson Jnr tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Perez. Tyson Jnr trying to control the pace. Tyson Jnr tries to stand and escape but Perez actually recovers to full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Perez keeping moving, preventing Tyson Jnr from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perez controls Tyson Jnr momentarily but Tyson Jnr frees himself. Tyson Jnr controls from within his opponent's guard. Tyson Jnr trying to control but Perez is working from the bottom. Tyson Jnr sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Tyson Jnr moves away from the strike by Perez. Perez throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Tyson Jnr counters with a good low kick that Perez was not able to check. Perez throws a right hand that Tyson Jnr ducks under and follows up with a left that Tyson Jnr also avoids with ease. Tyson Jnr fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Perez sprawls well initially but Tyson Jnr persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Tyson Jnr wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Perez uses the opportunity to regain full guard. Tyson Jnr trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Perez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tyson Jnr trying to control the position from guard on top but Perez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Perez closes the distance and clinches. Perez tightens his grip and picks Tyson Jnr up, before dumping him to the ground. Tyson Jnr manages to land in guard. Tyson Jnr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Perez defends well. Perez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tyson Jnr pulls Perez in close to prevent any damage. Perez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Tyson Jnr tries to land a sweep but no joy. Tyson Jnr is striking but Perez is not phased and passes to half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Perez is figuring out what he wants to do next. Tyson Jnr tries to kick Perez off in order to stand up. Perez Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mike Tyson Jnr will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Perez gets in close and instigates a clinch. Perez pulls guard effortlessly. Tyson Jnr content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Perez has locked up a guillotine! Perez's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Tyson Jnr is holding on here and Perez must be using up a lot of energy. Tyson Jnr has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Perez gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
