Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimbo Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimbo Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Charlie Day! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Smith misses with a low kick. Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Day moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Smith tries to keep at a distance but Day has taken the fight into the clinch. Day is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now. Smith works on Day's body with a couple of short punches. Knees to the body from Day.
Smith drags the fight down to the ground.
Smith pushes Day off and gets back to his feet.
Day dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Smith shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Day but Day pushes him off and we're back to square one. A jab from Day does it's job there. Day shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard. Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Day is controlling him. Day postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Smith is breathing heavily. Smith keeping moving, preventing Day from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Day's guard. Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Day is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Day pushes Smith off and gets back to his feet.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Day - that will leave a mark!
Jimbo Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Day circles away quickly and effectively. Day closes the distance and clinches. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Day has picked Smith up - he's going for a ride! Day dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith is looking to get back to is feet but Day passes into side control.
Day stands up and we're back to a striking position. Day moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Day lands a head kick!
Smith tries to clinch but fails miserably and Day moves into the clinch. Smith tries to score a body lock takedown but Day shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Day lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Smith wants to break free but Day has control.
Smith looking to slow down the pace here. Day turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Day working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Day wants to stand but Smith is controlling his arm. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Day off and has taken his back! Day looking very determined here, making life difficult for Smith.
Day really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Day defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

Charlie Day dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Smith with a lazy takedown attempt and Day counters with a two punch combo. Day shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Day was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Day can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smith is looking to escape. Smith is looking to get to half guard. Day trying to control but Smith is having none of it. Smith tries to hold on but Day pushes him away. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Smith gets back to half guard. Day sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Smith defending well though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith wants to improve his position but Day is controlling well.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Day is working away from the top position though. Smith actively working from the bottom here. Day is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Day prevents Smith from improving his position. Day slips a nice elbow through Smith's hands, connecting with Smith's forehead. Smith is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Day pulls his head out easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Day circles away from the clinch attempt and Day counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Day. Smith is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Day decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Day ducks under a wild hook from Smith. Day dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Day darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Smith is pressing down on Day's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Day stands up from guard. Let's bang! Smith takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Day closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Day throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Day tries to stand and escape but Smith is controlling the position. Smith looks like he's trying to stand up.
Smith is not content to let Day control the position. Smith looking for submissions off his back. Smith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith punching from the bottom.
Day missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Smith clinches but Day breaks the clinch and Day counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Smith keeping moving, preventing Day from controlling successfully. Smith looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Day has picked Smith up and slammed him! Smith can't keep hold of the triangle and Day manages to pass to side control! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Day taking a breather here. Day is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Charlie Day showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Day tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A low kick from Smith is predictable there and Day counters with a good, hard body kick but Smith shrugs it off. Smith throws a head kick but Day moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Smith goes for a takedown attempt but Day pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Smith darts in trying to clinch and Day counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Day stalling. Smith is staying active underneath Day, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Day wants to pass the guard but Smith is defending well. Day thows an elbow strike that misses. Smith gets hold of full guard and has managed to get a loose guillotine attempt. Day doesn't seem too bothered but Smith quickly shifts his position and has tightened the hold! Day is in big trouble now - he's going a funny colour - he's tapping out! Nice finish there! Day really should have spotted the danger earlier though... either incompetence or over-confidence has resulted in a big L on his record.
