Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julian May! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Curt Mullend! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mullend shoots in and gets a takedown into May's guard. May pushes Mullend off and gets back to his feet.
Mullend fails in his attempt to clinch. Mullend circles away from the clinch attempt and Mullend counters with a series of strikes. May will be more careful next time no doubt. Mullend closes the distance and clinches. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! May misses with a short punch on the inside. Mullend dodges an elbow strike from May.
Mullend blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. May has a couple of punches blocked by Mullend.
May lands a nice elbow. May unloads a knee to the mid-section. With the fighters up against the cage, May throws an elbow but misses. May throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mullend blocks the elbow strike.
May is trying to break the clinch but Mullend has him pressed against the cage. Mullend breaks from the clinch.
Mullend lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Mullend.
It looks like Julian May has been cut. Mullend swats away the attempt to clinch by May. Mullend rushes May and presses him up against the cage. Mullend has picked May up - he's going for a ride! Mullend dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Mullend is trying to control. May wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Mullend missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Mullend is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, May has managed to free his arm - good work. Mullend wants to advance to full mount but May doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mullend trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. May trying to keep a closed guard but Mullend is proving a slippery customer.
May is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mullend is controlling him. Mullend looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Mullend pushing down on May's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! May blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mullend. May pushes Mullend off looking to stand but Mullend dives back in and keeps control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mullend trying to control the action but May is working from the bottom. May moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Mullend throws a big right hand that misses. Mullend throws a big elbow that misses. Mullend postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. May wriggles free and stands up. May moves into the clinch successfully.
May softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. May throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
That's four minutes gone in the round. May throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Mullend breaks from the clinch.
May tries to clinch up. Curt Mullend seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. May closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mullend circles away. Mullend gets a double leg takedown into May's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mullend gets to his feet. May looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Mullend lands the left hand.
May is rocked! That kick from Mullend tenderised May's leg. May is trying to keep his angry face on. Oh May is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Mullend feints a jab and as May dips his head, Mullend unleashes a brutal head kick that catches May right on the jaw! Timbeeer! May falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Mullend smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Curt Mullend!
