PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joan Carney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunnar Tromp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joan Carney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gunnar Tromp!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tromp is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carney's half guard.
Carney is trying to stand.
Carney won't allow Tromp to pass to mount.
Carney slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Carney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Carney wants to stand and escape but Tromp is having none of it.
Carney bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tromp's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tromp wants to stand but Carney is controlling the position.
Tromp pulls Carney in close to his closed guard and prevents Carney from doing any damage or advancing position.
Carney is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carney has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Carney prevents Tromp from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carney is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tromp can do anything to dispel that myth.
Carney trying to control but Tromp is working from the bottom.
Tromp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carney. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tromp is trying to keep Carney in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carney throws a right and a left that Tromp avoids nicely.
Tromp lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Tromp throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carney was covering up waiting for the punch and Tromp finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Carney manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Tromp wants to break free but Carney has control.

Tromp jumps into guard, dragging Carney to the mat.

Carney drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carney jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Carney seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carney not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Carney gets to his feet - Tromp follows without any prompting.

Tromp pushes Carney up against the cage in a clinch.

Tromp pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Tromp bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Carney bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Tromp scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carney manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Carney tries to keep at a distance but Tromp has taken the fight into the clinch.
Carney throws a punch but it's blocked by Tromp.
Carney changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Tromp fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A jab lands there for Tromp.
Carney slips a jab and a cross from Tromp.
Carney went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joan Carney dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A left lands for Tromp.
Tromp throws a right hand that Carney ducks under and follows up with a left that Carney also avoids with ease.
Tromp digs a good body shot into Carney's ribs.
Gunnar Tromp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tromp throws a series of punches but Carney moves out of range.
As Tromp looks to move away, Carney throws a big counter combo but Tromp just gets out of the way.
Carney will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Carney moves out of range of the leg kick from Tromp.
Carney slips a jab and a cross from Tromp.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tromp closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Carney did well to prevent Tromp getting side control.

Carney manages to escape and get back to his feet!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carney throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Tromp lands with a nice combination. Carney backs away looking to recover.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tromp scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Carney bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Tromp is breathing heavily.
Joan Carney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Carney takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


Carney is rocked!

Tromp fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carney, pushing him back against the cage.
Oh Carney is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tromp manages to break the clinch.
Carney drops his hands for a split second and Tromp immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Carney face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Tromp follows up with a right hand that knocks Carney into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Gunnar Tromp!
