Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Wuzz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sergej Valentinovich! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wuzz shoots and misses and Valentinovich counters with a nice body shot. Wuzz drives through and clinches with Valentinovich against the cage.
Valentinovich swings wildly with an uppercut but Wuzz uses good head movement to avoid it. Wuzz prevents a body shot from Valentinovich. Wuzz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Valentinovich after a bit of a struggle. Valentinovich stops a takedown attempt from Wuzz.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Wuzz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Valentinovich lands a hook that snaps the head of Wuzz backwards. Valentinovich prevents a takedown attempt there.
A short left from Valentinovich. Wuzz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Valentinovich after a bit of a struggle. Valentinovich lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Valentinovich lands a hook that snaps the head of Wuzz backwards. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Valentinovich creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Valentinovich working some nice short punches in the clinch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wuzz is trying to pull guard but Valentinovich turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Valentinovich prevents a takedown attempt there.
Valentinovich lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Valentinovich has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Wuzz seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Valentinovich can turn it around. A nice right hand lands inside from Valentinovich.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valentinovich lands a shoulder strike. Wuzz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Valentinovich avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Valentinovich throws a head punch that misses. Valentinovich scores with a shoulder strike. Wuzz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Valentinovich to keep the fight standing. Wuzz manages to pull guard.
Valentinovich stays in close to Wuzz's body and controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wuzz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Valentinovich defends it easily. Wuzz looking for a guillotine here but Valentinovich defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Valentinovich is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Valentinovich preventing the sweep. Valentinovich controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Wuzz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Valentinovich avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Wuzz is looking for a triangle here but Valentinovich uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wuzz is looking to regain half guard here but Valentinovich keeps moving and retains side control. Valentinovich gets to mount! Wuzz was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Valentinovich tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Wuzz is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Valentinovich sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Wuzz is wriggling around trying to escape.
Wuzz is working hard here to advance position. Wuzz sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Wuzz avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Valentinovich. Wuzz wants to improve his position but Valentinovich is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sergej Valentinovich dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Valentinovich stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Valentinovich wants it to stay on the feet. Wuzz shoots in for a takedown but Valentinovich shows good takedown defense. Valentinovich lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wuzz's sensitive parts. Wuzz dives in and grabs Valentinovich's left leg, looking for a takedown. Valentinovich pushes down on Wuzz's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Wuzz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Valentinovich throws a good cross that connects.
Valentinovich misses with a low kick as Wuzz jumps back. Wuzz attempts a counter takedown but Valentinovich avoids it well and moves away. Valentinovich cracks Wuzz with a good jab. David Wuzz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wuzz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wuzz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Valentinovich as he jumps to the side. Wuzz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wuzz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Valentinovich circles away. Wuzz dives in for a single leg takedown but Valentinovich sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Wuzz dives in and grabs Valentinovich's left leg, looking for a takedown. Valentinovich pushes down on Wuzz's head and hops out. Valentinovich looks to land a body kick but Wuzz moved away. Valentinovich slaps away a takedown attempt from Wuzz, before circling back to the center of the mat. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valentinovich throws a shot from downtown. Wuzz moves away and avoids it. Valentinovich tries to work over Wuzz's front leg with a kick but Wuzz checks it. Wuzz doesn't succeed with the takedown and Valentinovich counters with a crisp one two that drops Wuzz! Valentinovich thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Wuzz to his feet! Wuzz is in big trouble! Valentinovich steps in with a hook that catches Wuzz right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Valentinovich follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Wuzz looks absolutely devastated.
