Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lesley Johns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Erling!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Erling has managed to clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Johns obliges.

Erling pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Erling is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Erling has a closed guard, preventing Johns from standing up.
Johns trying to control the position from guard on top but Erling is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Erling is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Erling changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Johns fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Johns really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Johns shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Erling as he avoids it easily.

Johns shoots in and bounces Erling off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Erling is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Johns presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johns lands a good knee to the midsection. Erling won't want to take too many of those.

Johns breaks the clinch.
Erling tries for a takedown but Johns circles away easily
and Johns counters with a stiff right hand.
Erling looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A little feinted left hand from Johns on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Johns wants to clinch up but Erling keeps it at a distance.
Johns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Erling swivels and escapes.

Johns tries to keep at a distance but Erling has taken the fight into the clinch.
Johns goes for a takedown in the clinch but Erling prevents it.
Erling is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Erling tries to pull guard but Johns won't allow it.
Erling drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Johns throws an elbow that misses.

Erling fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Johns wants to break the clinch but can't.

Johns breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johns darts in looking for a takedown but Erling gets double underhooks and turns Johns into the cage.
Erling throws a sloppy head kick
and Johns counters with a nice uppercut.

Erling breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Erling throws a leg kick
and Johns counters with a straight right hand.
Erling tries for a takedown but Johns circles away easily
and Johns makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lesley Johns dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Erling looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Johns throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Erling's waist but Erling gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johns off to one side.

Erling is trying to break the clinch but Johns is controlling him.

Johns drops down looking for an ankle pick but Erling pulls his leg out and moves away.
Erling throws a right and a left that Johns avoids nicely.
Johns is looking to wear down Erling with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Erling throws a lazy head kick
and Johns counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Johns is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Erling can do to turn this around?

Erling fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johns, pushing him back against the cage.
Erling is trying to drag Johns to the mat but Johns just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Erling can't break the clinch.
Erling on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Erling avoids a wild elbow strike from Johns.

Erling breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Erling gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Johns counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Johns leaves Erling with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Johns feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Johns has Erling up against the cage in a clinch.
Erling takes an elbow to the forehead.
Johns working aggressively here.

Erling breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johns is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Erling uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Johns.
Erling changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Erling changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johns tries to avoid it but Erling manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johns to the ground. Johns escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Johns shoots in looking for a takedown but Erling manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johns's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Erling shoots in but Johns avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Johns misses its target.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Erling closes the distance and pushes Johns back into the cage.

Johns bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Erling wants to control but Johns postures up.
Johns controls the position.

Johns tries for a kimura but Erling is defending well.
Erling is trying to get back to half guard.
Erling gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Johns looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Johns is working for a kimura but Erling is defending it quite comfortably.
Johns seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Erling is staying active underneath Johns, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Erling is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johns defends well.

Roy Erling seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Johns shoots in but Erling avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Johns connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Johns ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Erling moves away.
Erling tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Erling takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Johns shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Erling's guard.

Johns stands up and waves to Erling to follow him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Erling shoots for a takedown but Johns saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Johns was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Erling clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lesley Johns showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johns, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
