Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lamar Page (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lamar Page!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ricky Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Page swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Cooper clinches up against the cage.
Cooper cracks Page with a nice body shot.
Cooper trying to land knees to the body.
Cooper changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Page fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Cooper scores with a hook to the body. Page takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Page rushes Cooper and presses him up against the cage.
Cooper lands a knee to the body.

Cooper escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cooper is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Page is working for takedown but Cooper is calmly controlling the position for now.

Cooper jumps guard and drags Page to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Cooper is controlling Page's posture.
Cooper looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Page puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Page could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Page is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Page slows the pace down in half guard.

Cooper tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Cooper on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Cooper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cooper is trying to control but can't.
Page trying to control from Cooper's half guard. Cooper has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cooper looking to control.
Cooper has a closed guard, preventing Page from standing up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Page stands up from Cooper's guard - Page perhaps looking for a knockout.
Page displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cooper.
Lamar Page has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Cooper.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Cooper is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cooper misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Page.
Page wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cooper has him pressed against the cage.

Cooper escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cooper closes this distance looking for a takedown but Page circles away.
Page slaps away a takedown attempt from Cooper, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Page appears to be looking for a big counter.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Page has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricky Cooper dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cooper fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Page avoids it really well and circles away.
Cooper takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Cooper instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cooper successfully pulls guard.

Page stands and steps away. Cooper gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Page throws a head kick but Cooper moves out of range.
Cooper throws a sloppy body shot
and Page counters with a one-two to the body.
Ricky Cooper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Page misses with a takedown attempt
and Cooper counters with a nice uppercut.
Page pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cooper unleashes a big counter combination but Page bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Some wild striking there from Cooper.
Cooper shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cooper rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Page moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
As Cooper tries to get set, Page tries to push him back and clinch up but Cooper manages to avoid the attempt.
Ricky Cooper seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cooper will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Page appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Lamar Page has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Cooper.
Cooper is breathing heavily.
Cooper shoots in for a takedown but Page shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Page lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Cooper is looking to break free of the clinch but Page has double underhooks.
Page is working for takedown but Cooper is calmly controlling the position for now.
Page is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cooper gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Cooper avoids the head kick by Page.
Cooper misses with a takedown attempt
and Page counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Page tries to keep at a distance but Cooper has taken the fight into the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cooper manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Cooper's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Page looking for a takedown.
Cooper fails to pull the fight into his guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cooper tries a body shot but Page blocks it.
Page has Cooper pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cooper manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Cooper breaks the clinch.
Cooper misses the shot to the body.
Page tries to clinch but Cooper moves out of range.
Page throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Page lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Cooper backs up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cooper fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Page, pushing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lamar Page will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Cooper thuds his shin into the meat of Page's side.
Cooper is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Cooper clinches up with Page and pushes him back against the cage.
Cooper prevents the takedown attempt.

Cooper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cooper connects with a leg kick. Page looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Cooper has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Page is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooper lands a left hand.

Cooper pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cooper closes the distance and clinches up with Page, looking for a takedown. Cooper pushes Page against the cage but Page circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Page is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Cooper.

Page pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cooper unleashes a big counter combination but Page bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Cooper looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lamar Page has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Cooper.
Page tries to work over Cooper's front leg with a kick but Cooper checks it.
Cooper looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Page is fending him off so far but Cooper persists. Nope, Page circles away and we're back to standing.
Cooper takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Page is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cooper is defending well.
Cooper fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Cooper pushes Page back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Cooper breaks the clinch.

Page moves into the clinch.
Cooper is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Page is defending well.
Cooper slowing the pace effectively.
Page has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Page lands an elbow that stopped Cooper in his tracks for a moment.

Page jumps guard and drags Cooper to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Cooper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Page is keeping the position for now.

Cooper throwing strikes but missing.
Page pulls Cooper in close to prevent any damage.

Page is working an open guard so Cooper takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Cooper blocks a head kick by Page.
Cooper fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cooper misses with a takedown attempt - Page sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cooper tries a head kick but it misses.
Page throws a hook but Cooper avoids it easily.

and Page holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Page jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cooper walks away with a smile on his face. Page gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Page misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Page throws a low kick but it's checked well by Cooper.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ricky Cooper.
I think Cooper has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
