PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Genge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Glass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Thomas Genge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Glass!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Genge will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Glass moves in looking to clinch but Genge pushes him off.
Genge scores with a spinning back kick!
Genge looks to land a left hand but Glass moved out of range nicely.

Genge fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Glass sprawls well initially but Genge persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Genge lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Glass tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Genge has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Glass in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Glass regains half guard.
Genge moves nicely into side control.
Genge staying calm.

Genge looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Genge is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Glass's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Genge decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Genge throws a body kick that misses.
Glass tries to clinch there but Genge circles away.

Genge moves into the clinch.

Genge gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Genge sitting and controlling from the half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Genge is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Glass has given up his back here.

Genge has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Glass has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Genge is working the ground and pound. Can Glass escape?
Glass is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Glass rolls, trying to escape but Genge keeps control of the position.

Glass defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Genge's arms.

Genge is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Glass has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Genge is riding his opponent, not letting Glass buck him off.
Glass is trying to break free.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Genge misses with a straight right.
Glass shoots in for a takedown but Genge shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Glass tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Genge swivels and escapes.
Genge seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Glass tries for a takedown but Genge sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Thomas Genge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Glass.

Genge has Glass up against the cage in a clinch.

Genge breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Genge throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Genge misses the shot to the body.
Glass feints the counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Glass misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Glass avoids the head kick by Genge.

Glass shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Glass looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Genge feints and as Glass raises his hands in defense, Genge changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Glass is breathing heavily.

Genge decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Glass closes this distance looking for a takedown but Genge circles away.
Genge throws a jab when Glass was well out of range.
Glass tries to close the distance and clinch up but Genge swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Genge misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Glass lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Glass.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Glass avoids a punch combination nicely.
Glass throws a head kick that misses.
Glass throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Genge lands the left hand.
Glass moves away from the strike by Genge.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Genge moves into the clinch.

Genge pulls guard successfully.

Genge manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Glass throws a body punch but Genge moves out of range.

Genge rushes Glass and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Genge manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Genge trying to control the position here.
Genge has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Genge wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Glass trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Thomas Genge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Genge pulls Glass in to control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Genge fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Glass, pushing him back against the cage.
Genge's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Genge misses with a body punch.

Glass escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Glass tries to score a power double leg takedown but Genge sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Glass somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Genge dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Genge doesn't manage to clinch there - Glass circles away.

Genge closes the distance and clinches.
Genge is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Glass can do to turn this around?
Glass is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Glass tries to pull guard but Genge holds him up against the cage and eventually Glass drops back down to his feet.

Genge manages to pull guard.

Glass is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Genge has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Glass is looking to defend but Genge has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Glass! Genge pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Glass taps out and this one is all over!
