Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rodrigo Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Goodman! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Goodman makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Goodman lands a big uppercut and Silva is down! He's in big trouble - Goodman follows him to the mat!
It looks like Rodrigo Silva has been cut. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Goodman in particular looking to stall. Silva is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Goodman winds up and cracks Silva with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Goodman is working for a kimura but Silva is defending it quite comfortably.
Silva wants to get back to full guard. Silva actively working from the bottom here. Goodman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Goodman is looking for a kimura here.
Goodman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Goodman not doing much here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goodman working over Silva with some ground and pound. Silva looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Silva is trying to get back to full guard. Goodman stands up from half guard. Silva looks to throw the jab but Goodman is out of range. Goodman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. We've been hearing reports that Silva has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Goodman gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva manages to escape and get back to his feet! Goodman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Silva sprawls well initially but Goodman persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Silva is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Goodman controlling the action here. Goodman passes the guard and advances to mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goodman is landing with some decent strikes but Silva is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Goodman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Goodman is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Goodman shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Goodman is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Silva is rocked! Goodman lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Silva! More strikes land and this one is all over! Goodman jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
