PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Morton Franks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shock Woodfist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Morton Franks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shock Woodfist!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, David Schapiro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Woodfist feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Franks scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Franks is trying hard to land a takedown here. Woodfist sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Woodfist is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Woodfist scores with a one two! Franks had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Woodfist shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Franks striking off his back but it's not causing Woodfist any problems.
Franks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Franks manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Franks gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Franks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Franks can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Woodfist controls the pace.
Franks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
It looks like Woodfist might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Franks striking off his back but it's not causing Woodfist any problems.
Franks doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Franks is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Woodfist preventing the sweep.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Woodfist stands up out of Franks's guard for a moment - Franks manages to land a nice upkick.
Franks throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Woodfist shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Franks manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Franks working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Woodfist.

Franks has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Woodfist is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Woodfist decides to pull guard.

Franks wants to control from the top but Woodfist keeps moving.
Woodfist looks winded!
Franks landing some decent shots from guard.
Franks throwing strikes but missing.
Franks postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Franks controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Franks distracts Woodfist with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Franks postures up in Woodfist's guard and throws a big left but Woodfist blocks it.
Franks cracks Woodfist with a solid left hand.

Woodfist looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Franks has picked Woodfist up and slammed him! Woodfist can't keep hold of the triangle and Franks manages to pass to side control!
Franks is looking to take a break and control but Woodfist is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Franks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Woodfist is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Franks just content to control the position.

Franks is trying to get an arm triangle but Woodfist is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Woodfist taking punishment in the form of punches.
Franks is looking to take a break and control but Woodfist is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Woodfist takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Franks working the head and body with strikes.
Franks looks up at the clock and then as Woodfist takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Franks smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Franks in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morton Franks dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Franks lands a high kick!

Woodfist drives through with a takedown into Franks's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Franks thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Franks trying to keep a closed guard but Woodfist is proving a slippery customer.

Franks has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Woodfist should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Franks has tightened it up now! Woodfist should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Morton Franks!
