Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Liddell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerome Wood! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood takes a body punch but keeps moving. Wood shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Liddell has Wood up against the cage in a clinch.
Liddell is trying to break free. Liddell wants to get back to striking at distance but Wood won't allow it.
Wood has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Liddell avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Liddell is pressed up against the cage. Wood has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Liddell down to the mat. Liddell avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerome Wood. Wood shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Liddell pinned against the cage. Liddell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Liddell moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Jerome Wood has been cut. Liddell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Wood doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. A combination from Liddell does no damage. Liddell wants to clinch up but Wood keeps it at a distance. Liddell stuffs the takedown attempt from Wood. Wood gets slowly back to his feet. Wood looks gassed! Liddell keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Wood misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Liddell lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Liddell shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Wood is backing up but Liddell catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Wood covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Liddell Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chuck Liddell!
