PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Manny Puno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mepral Concor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Mepral Concor enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Manny Puno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mepral Concor!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Concor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Puno connects with a nice looking jab.
Nice uppercut lands for Puno. That snapped Concor's head back.
Concor has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Concor takes one to the chin there.

Puno rushes Concor and presses him up against the cage.
Puno digs a right hand underneath Concor's ribcage. Concor let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Puno pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Concor shoots in and gets a takedown into Puno's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Concor slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Concor is standing up over Puno. Puno looks to escape but Concor dives into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Puno is looking for a sweep.

Concor is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Puno is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Puno tries to improve position but can't.

Concor wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Puno, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Puno defending against the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Puno's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Concor misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Puno is trying to buck Concor off.
Concor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Puno keeps working.
Puno wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Puno parries the strikes from Concor easily there. Concor is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Puno to escape.
Puno is not content to let Concor control the position.
Concor is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Concor tries for a kimura but Puno is defending well.
Puno has one of Concor's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Puno is looking to regain half guard here but Concor keeps moving and retains side control.

Concor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Puno is trying to buck Concor off.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Puno stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Puno wants it to stay on the feet.
Concor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Manny Puno has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mepral Concor.
Puno keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A lazy left from Puno finds it's target.
Concor showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Puno.

Puno gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Puno lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A short uppercut from Puno.
Puno lands a right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manny Puno dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Concor throws an off balance right hand
and Puno counters with a nice body shot.
Puno is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Puno stuns Concor with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A cross from Puno lands.

Puno forces Concor back against the cage and clinches.
Concor is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Puno pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Puno lands a body punch in the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Puno.
Concor prevents a body shot from Puno.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puno lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Concor backwards.

Puno turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Puno is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Concor can do to turn this around?
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Puno tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Concor tries to improve position but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Concor keeps trying to improve his position.
Concor is trying to control Puno's posture but Puno avoids it.
Puno tries to stand but Concor is controlling his head.
Concor gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Puno tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Concor tries to get to full guard but Puno has control of the leg.
Puno tries to stand but can't do so whilst Concor controls his leg.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Concor is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Concor tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Puno was well out of range. Poor timing from Concor.
Puno lands a jab to Concor's midsection.
Nice jab there from Puno.
Concor takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Concor shoots in but Puno avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Concor is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Concor changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Puno tries to avoid it but Concor manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Puno to the ground. Puno escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Manny Puno has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mepral Concor.
Puno feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Concors jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Concor fails with a takedown attempt.

Puno clinches.
A right hand to the body from Puno.
Puno lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Concor backwards.

Puno decides to pull guard.
Puno is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Puno postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Concor to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Puno comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Concor on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Oooooh!!! Puno has knocked Concor down with a huge combo! Puno steps away and waves a wobbly Concor back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Concor is rocked!
Puno ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Concor's jaw. Concor's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Puno does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Manny Puno!
