Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ian Domman! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Chad Campbell and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith is looking to land body kicks. Smith throws a head kick that misses. Domman is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Domman with the counter takedown but Smith avoids it easily. Smith throws a low kick, looking for Domman's leg but Domman calmly moves out of range. Smith really is a fat lump. Smith misses with a low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Domman keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Smith. Domman drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Smith defends it well. Smith tries to land a leg kick but Domman saw it coming and moves away.
Domman tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Domman moves out of range of the body kick from Smith.

Domman changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Domman counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Smith! Domman looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Domman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smith knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Smith is trying to buck Domman off. Domman moves into full mount! Smith's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Domman looking for a guillotine from mount but Smith is having none of it. Smith is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Domman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smith manages to avoid the submission attempt. Smith is trying to buck Domman off. Domman swings around for an armbar but Smith sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Domman's guard. Smith has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Smith would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. We've been informed that Domman has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Domman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Smith wants to stand but Domman has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Domman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mike Smith will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Domman moves out of range of the strikes. Smith throws a head kick that misses. Smith is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Domman's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems. Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Domman moves out of range easily. and Domman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The fighters are working up against the cage. Smith manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Both fighters are breathing heavily. A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch. Smith is trying to force a seperation but Domman has the dominant position. Domman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith misses the jab. Mike Smith is winning the standup battle so far. A telegraphed right hand from Smith misses the target. A looping hook to the body misses from Smith. Domman does a little dance to reset his feet. Domman feints the counter takedown. Smith throws a hook to the side of Domman's head but Domman sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Domman shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Smith thinks about countering with a head kick. Smith looks to land a body kick but Domman moved away. Domman tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

And that's the end of the fight! Mike Smith showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
