Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doctor Slaughter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Campion! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Reed Andrews and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Slaughter throws a lazy right hand but Campion sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Campion feints the counter takedown. Slaughter connects with the punch. Campion fails with a takedown attempt. Campion looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Slaughter! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. An elbow from Campion crashes against the mat.
Campion wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Slaughter, who protects the arm well. Campion has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Campion is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Campion wants to control but Slaughter is keeping him busy. Slaughter on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Slaughter tries to get out of the position. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Campion wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slaughter keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Slaughter trying to remain calm as Campion controls from the top position. Slaughter is not content to let Campion control the position. Campion controls the position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Sloppy strikes there by Campion. Campion in side control, throwing shots but Slaughter defends.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Campion is trying to get an arm triangle but Slaughter is defending well. Campion is looking to take a break and control but Slaughter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Campion shoots and misses and Slaughter counters with a stiff right hand.
It looks like John Campion has been cut. Slaughter misses with a hook. Campion drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Slaughter controls Campion momentarily but Campion frees himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Campion trying to control but Slaughter is working from the bottom. Campion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Campion missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Slaughter has his hands on Campion's head, controlling the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Campion trying to control but Slaughter is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but John Campion will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on John Campion's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Slaughter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Campion. Campion misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Campion closes the distance and clinches up with Slaughter, looking for a takedown. Campion pushes Slaughter against the cage but Slaughter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Slaughter throwing a counter right hand but Campion manages to avoid it. Doctor Slaughter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Campion. Campion looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Slaughter managing to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Slaughter being controlled here, momentarily. Campion wants to control from the top but Slaughter keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Campion is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Campion might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Slaughter haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Campion controlling from the top position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Campion stopping the sweep attempt from Slaughter.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Slaughter lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Slaughter stuffs the takedown attempt from Campion. Campion gets slowly back to his feet. Slaughter half committed to a counter leg kick. Slaughter swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Campion. Slaughter jabs Campion to the body, keeping him at a distance. Campion closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Slaughter to the mat! Slaughter manages to get full guard. Slaughter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Campion manages to get himself to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Campion keeping moving, preventing Slaughter from controlling successfully. Campion not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Slaughter with a flurry of punches that miss. Slaughter wants to control from the top but Campion keeps moving. Slaughter with a nice head shot there. Slaughter lands a couple of decent looking shots. Slaughter postures up and lands a big shot to Campion's brow. Slaughter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Campion is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Slaughter working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. We've been hearing that Slaughter has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Campion is looking for a triangle but Slaughter pushes his legs off easily.
Campion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Campion is on top in guard.
Campion controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Campion wants to control from the top but Slaughter keeps moving. Campion won't allow Slaughter to sweep him here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Doctor Slaughter dominated that second round. The cut man is working on John Campion's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Slaughter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Slaughter throws a looping overhand right but Campion ducks down to avoid it. John Campion seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Slaughter throws a body punch but Campion moves out of range. Slaughter thows a left - swing and a miss! Campion fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Campion shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Slaughter as he jumps to the side. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Campion walks into a stiff left hand from Slaughter. Campion has a takedown stuffed. Doctor Slaughter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Campion.
That's one minute gone in the round. Slaughter lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Campion ducks right into an uppercut from Slaughter. Slaughter scores with a leg kick.
Slaughter is looking to chop away at Campion's legs. Campion changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Campion shoots in for a double leg but Slaughter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Some wild striking there from Slaughter.
And Campion tries to counter it with a takedown but Slaughter pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Slaughter digs a good hook to Campion's body.
Campion has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Slaughter. Doctor Slaughter is winning the standup battle so far. Campion darts in looking for a takedown but Slaughter gets double underhooks and turns Campion into the cage. Slaughter looks to land a body kick but Campion moved away. Campion shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Slaughter as he jumps to the side. Campion closes the distance and clinches up with Slaughter, looking for a takedown. Campion pushes Slaughter against the cage but Slaughter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Slaughter throws a right and a left that both miss. Campion drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Slaughter defends it well. Slaughter digs a good hook to Campion's body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Campion tries to score a power double leg takedown but Slaughter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Campion somewhat. No luck with that takedown attempt from Campion. A swing and a miss from Slaughter. Campion uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Slaughter. A telegraphed right hand from Slaughter misses the target. Campion shoots and misses and Slaughter counters with a stiff right hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Slaughter throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Campion sees it coming and avoids it easily. Slaughter throws a combination. Campion tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Campion gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Slaughter counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Campion is rocked!
That has opened up John Campion's cut even more. Crack! Slaughter connects with the perfect overhand right and Campion falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Slaughter!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Doctor Slaughter!
