PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hamilton Cork (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hamilton Cork told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hamilton Cork!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cork throws a head kick but Holt moves out of range.
Cork shoots in looking for a takedown but Holt manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cork's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cork looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Holt appears to be looking for a big counter.

Holt gets tackled into the cage by Cork. Cork maintains the clinch.
The referee calls for Holt to work.
Holt tries a knee to the head but Cork blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cork wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Cork is looking to control Holt's arms but Holt gets an underhook and turns him. Now Cork has his back to the cage.

Holt has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cork uses from the top position.
Cork must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Holt is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Cork presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Holt is trying to push Cork away but Cork has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Cork drags the fight down to the ground.
Holt cracks Cork with a solid left hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holt lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Cork really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Holt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Holt chips away with some ground and pound.
Holt lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Holt decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cork enables Holt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cork manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Cork is wriggling around but Holt manages to pass to half guard.

Cork on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Holt is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Holt in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Cork tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Holt!
