PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Souza has chosen Blindao as his entrance music. Daniel Souza will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samuel Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Souza!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Souza manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Scott on his heels. He'll look to pass Scott's guard now, I'm sure.
Souza trying to stand up but can't free himself from Scott's guard.
Scott wants to sweep but no luck.
Scott will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Scott kicks Souza off and gets to his feet.
Scott avoids the head kick by Souza.

Souza shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Scott manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Scott might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Scott manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Souza manages to get himself to full guard.

Souza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Scott. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Souza is trying to control the position but Scott postures up.

Souza is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Souza is working an open guard so Scott takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Souza gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Scott manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Scott had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Souza defends it easily.
Scott lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Scott stands up from Souza's guard - Scott perhaps looking for a knockout.
Souza misses with a leg kick

so Scott counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Scott decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Souza shoots in and bounces Scott off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Scott is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Souza presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Souza looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Scott has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Souza regains guard immediately.
Scott is standing up over Souza. Souza looks to escape but Scott dives into side control.


Scott tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Scott has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Scott decides to stand back up. Scott steps back and let's Souza get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Souza tries a head kick but it misses.

Souza shoots in and gets a takedown into Scott's guard.

Scott manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Souza gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Scott to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Scott decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Souza, up you get!
Souza thows a leg kick but Scott checks it
and Souza takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Souza has managed to clinch.
Scott is working for takedown but Souza is calmly controlling the position for now.
Souza is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Scott is keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Scott turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Souza tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Scott wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Scott takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Souza to pass into mount.

Scott stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Souza pushes Scott up against the cage in a clinch.
Souza tries to circle away but Scott has him pinned against the cage.
Souza wants to get back to striking at distance but Scott won't allow it.
Scott blocks a body shot from Souza.

Scott escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samuel Scott dominated that round.
That's time! Scott's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Souza feints and as Scott raises his hands in defense, Souza changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Scott uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Scott takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Samuel Scott has been cut.

Souza shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Scott napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Scott throws Souza to one side and escapes!
Scott really is a fat lump.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Scott gets to his feet - Souza follows without any prompting.

Souza throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Scott tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Souza is in Scott's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Scott manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Souza is breathing heavily.
Scott has Souza pressed against the cage, preventing Souza from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Souza taking a breather.
Souza seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.
Souza tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Scott escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Scott connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Souza momentarily.
Souza lands with an overhand left.

Souza looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Scott kicks Souza off and gets back to his feet.

Scott scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Scott in side control lands a decent elbow.
Souza is looking for a sweep.

Scott has an Americana. Souza didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Scott is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Scott hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Samuel Scott!
