Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, German Giles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roland Thibodeau! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thibodeau throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Giles tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Thibodeau is in Giles's guard. Giles striking off his back but it's not causing Thibodeau any problems. Thibodeau stands and steps away. Giles gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Thibodeau fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Giles sprawls well initially but Thibodeau persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Giles moves into full guard.
Giles preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Thibodeau looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Giles controls Thibodeau momentarily but Thibodeau frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thibodeau decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Giles, up you get! Thibodeau lunges at Giles with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Giles's hand. Thibodeau scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Thibodeau sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Giles defending well though. Thibodeau is figuring out what he wants to do next. Thibodeau is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Giles has managed to free his arm - good work. Giles avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Thibodeau.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thibodeau perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Thibodeau sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Giles defending well though. Giles keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Thibodeau throwing shots but Giles is blocking nicely. Thibodeau tries to pass the half guard into mount. Giles knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Thibodeau wants to take a breather but Giles is having none of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Thibodeau shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Giles manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thibodeau wants to control from the top but Giles keeps moving. Thibodeau stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Giles swivels though and keeps the full guard. Giles wants to stand and escape but Thibodeau is having none of it. Thibodeau pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Giles is keeping the position for now. Thibodeau trying to control the position from guard on top but Giles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Thibodeau sitting in guard, not really doing much. Giles keeping moving, preventing Thibodeau from controlling successfully.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Thibodeau gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Giles to score an easy takedown into full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Thibodeau preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roland Thibodeau dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Thibodeau changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Giles looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Roland Thibodeau has got the better of the ground game so far. Thibodeau misses with the ground and pound. Thibodeau is looking to take a break and control but Giles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Thibodeau sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Giles is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Thibodeau is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Giles will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Giles prevents Thibodeau from moving into mount. Thibodeau slows the pace down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thibodeau trying to control the position but Giles is working away. Thibodeau has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Giles defending against the ground and pound. Thibodeau stands up. Thibodeau pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Thibodeau pulls guard. Thibodeau wants to get back to his feet but Giles is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Thibodeau tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Giles wants to control from the top but Thibodeau keeps moving. Giles wants to stand but Thibodeau is controlling his posture from full guard. Thibodeau is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Thibodeau keeping moving, preventing Giles from controlling successfully. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Giles seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Giles gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Thibodeau to score an easy takedown into full guard. Giles pushes Thibodeau off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Roland Thibodeau seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thibodeau drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Giles is wriggling around but Thibodeau manages to pass to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thibodeau has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Giles works to full guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Giles is looking to stand back up but Thibodeau counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Giles. Giles is not content to let Thibodeau control the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Giles is trying to maintain the position but Thibodeau is very close to passing his half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roland Thibodeau showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Thibodeau shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Thibodeau was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Giles throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Thibodeau drives through with a takedown into Giles's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Thibodeau tries to free his leg and advance position but Giles is retaining full guard. Thibodeau must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Giles looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thibodeau is one step ahead there. Thibodeau has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Giles is proving hard to escape from.
That's one minute gone in the round. Giles is trying to keep Thibodeau in close.
Thibodeau decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Giles misses the shot to the body. Thibodeau clinches up against the cage. Thibodeau fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Giles keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Thibodeau's efforts to push away. Thibodeau wants to break free but Giles has control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Giles manages to break the clinch.
Thibodeau tries a head kick but it misses.
Giles clinches. Thibodeau is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Giles can't fight it off and eventually Thibodeau manages to take the fight to the floor. Giles looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Thibodeau showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Giles keeping moving, preventing Thibodeau from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thibodeau throwing strikes but missing. Giles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Giles trying to control the position.
Thibodeau trying to control but Giles is working from the bottom. Thibodeau stands up from Giles's guard - Thibodeau perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Giles misses with a low kick as Thibodeau jumps back. Giles tries to close the distance and clinch but Thibodeau swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Thibodeau closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Thibodeau wants to control but Giles is keeping him busy. Giles struggling a bit here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Thibodeau taking a break here but Giles is having none of it and regains half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Roland Thibodeau. Well Thibodeau has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
