PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arman Shaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Sturd Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sturd Jr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Waka Flocka Flame - 50K (Neon Dreams Remix). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arman Shaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Sturd Jr!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sturd Jr throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Sturd Jr takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Shaker moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Sturd Jr checks a leg kick.
Sturd Jr keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Shaker throws a front kick aimed at Sturd Jr's knee but Sturd Jr avoids it well.
Sturd Jr drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Shaker defends it well.
Shaker misses with a body kick.

Sturd Jr stalks Shaker and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Shaker's face. Shaker staggers backwards, shaken.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shaker avoids the head kick by Sturd Jr.
Sturd Jr has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Some bone on bone action there as Sturd Jr checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Sturd Jr is looking to chop away at Shaker's legs.
Sturd Jr throws a sloppy head kick and Shaker moves out of range easily.
Sturd Jr throws a leg kick which misses Shaker's front leg but catches the back leg as Shaker tries to avoid it.

and Sturd Jr counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Shaker tries to land a front kick but Sturd Jr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Shaker throws a low kick, looking for Sturd Jr's leg but Sturd Jr calmly moves out of range.

and Sturd Jr counters with a straight right hand.
Sturd Jr takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sturd Jr shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Shaker eats them both and turns towards Sturd Jr to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shaker changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sturd Jr looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Shaker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sturd Jr keeps working.

The ground and pound from Shaker seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Shaker throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sturd Jr on the side of the head.
Sturd Jr throws a looping overhand right but Shaker ducks down to avoid it.
Sturd Jr looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Shaker checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Shaker throws a right and a left that both miss.

and Sturd Jr counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sturd Jr wants to stand but Shaker is controlling his posture from full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sturd Jr wants to stand but Shaker has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Shaker is looking to control Sturd Jr's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shaker avoid being mounted?
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shaker is refusing to be controlled, as Sturd Jr sits in half guard.
Shaker is looking to improve his position.
Shaker keeping hold of Sturd Jr's head, controlling as best he can.

Shaker is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sturd Jr pulls his head out easily.
Shaker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sturd Jr is working away from the top position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sturd Jr seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Sturd Jr wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Shaker wants to control from the top but Sturd Jr keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sturd Jr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shaker.

Shaker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sturd Jr's guard.

Shaker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Sturd Jr is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Arman Shaker.
I think Sturd Jr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
