Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roger Schwarzeneg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pablo Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruiz has chosen El niño maravillas as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pablo Ruiz! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schwarzeneg closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ruiz did well to prevent Schwarzeneg getting side control. Ruiz trying to control here.

Ruiz is trying to get back to full guard. Ruiz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Schwarzeneg is working away from the top position though. Schwarzeneg is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schwarzeneg slips a nice elbow through Ruiz's hands, connecting with Ruiz's forehead. We've been hearing good reports from Schwarzeneg's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Ruiz wants to sweep but Schwarzeneg has passed to side control! Schwarzeneg scoring with punches from side control. Ruiz takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schwarzeneg wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ruiz, who protects the arm well. Ruiz is trying to buck Schwarzeneg off. Schwarzeneg lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ruiz down.
Schwarzeneg is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ruiz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Schwarzeneg trying to control the action but Ruiz is working from the bottom. Schwarzeneg is really struggling to control Ruiz but he's trying to hold on to the position. Schwarzeneg stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schwarzeneg looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Schwarzeneg is looking to advance position but Ruiz won't allow it. Ruiz tries to get to full guard but Schwarzeneg has control of the leg. Schwarzeneg drops an elbow to the side of Ruiz's head. Schwarzeneg working the head and body with strikes. Ruiz on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Schwarzeneg looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schwarzeneg decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Ruiz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Schwarzeneg swats him away and circles back towards the center. Schwarzeneg shoots in and bounces Ruiz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Schwarzeneg stands up over Ruiz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Schwarzeneg has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ruiz wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Schwarzeneg manages to pass to side control. Still in half guard, Schwarzeneg seems content to control.

Schwarzeneg wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Ruiz has a takedown stuffed. Roger Schwarzeneg seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schwarzeneg closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Schwarzeneg lands in his opponent's guard. Roger Schwarzeneg overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Schwarzeneg working some strikes from top position. Schwarzeneg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Schwarzeneg advances to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schwarzeneg controlling the action here. That's one minute gone in the round. Schwarzeneg tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Schwarzeneg has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ruiz tries to improve position but can't. Schwarzeneg is trying to get an arm triangle but Ruiz is defending well. Schwarzeneg working the head and body with strikes. Schwarzeneg is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ruiz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Ruiz is trying to control Schwarzeneg's posture but Schwarzeneg avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schwarzeneg lands a few punches from side control. Schwarzeneg has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Ruiz fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Schwarzeneg closes the distance and clinches. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Schwarzeneg as Ruiz tries to tie him up. Ruiz fails to pull guard.
Roger Schwarzeneg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pablo Ruiz. Ruiz tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruiz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Schwarzeneg walks away with a smile on his face. Ruiz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Schwarzeneg shoots in and bounces Ruiz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Ruiz is breathing heavily. Schwarzeneg gets to his feet - Ruiz follows without any prompting. Roger Schwarzeneg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ruiz doesn't manage to clinch there - Schwarzeneg circles away.
Schwarzeneg drives through with a takedown into Ruiz's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Ruiz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schwarzeneg is one step ahead there. Schwarzeneg keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ruiz's head. Ruiz has momentary wrist control but Schwarzeneg slips an elbow through the middle. Schwarzeneg lands a couple of elbows.

Ruiz is rocked! Schwarzeneg is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Schwarzeneg decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Schwarzeneg fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ruiz to the ground. Schwarzeneg is now in Ruiz's guard. Ruiz is still in real trouble! Can Schwarzeneg finish him? Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Schwarzeneg gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Ruiz seems to have recovered his senses. Schwarzeneg forces Ruiz back against the cage and clinches. Schwarzeneg has picked Ruiz up - he's going for a ride! Schwarzeneg dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Ruiz kicks off Schwarzeneg and gets to his feet. Ruiz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Schwarzeneg loads up on a big left hand. Ruiz felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Schwarzeneg looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Ruiz can't hide his disappointment, as Schwarzeneg celebrates the victory.
