Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Ruttenum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Curtis Ruttenum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christian Battle!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Battle gets a takedown into half guard.
Ruttenum is trying to stand.
Ruttenum really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Battle seems to be working for a kimura but Ruttenum defends the submission attempt.
Ruttenum trying to hold on to Battle's head to control him but Battle postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Battle is looking to advance position but Ruttenum won't allow it.
Ruttenum is trying to stand up here but Battle is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ruttenum gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Battle tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ruttenum just stands there and leans against the cage.

Ruttenum pulls guard.
Battle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Battle keeps trying to improve his position.
Battle passes into half guard.
Battle moves nicely into side control.
Ruttenum tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Ruttenum is controlling an arm, preventing Battle from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Battle moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ruttenum has worked his arm free - good work by Ruttenum!
Ruttenum tries to escape but Battle is in control.
Ruttenum is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Canadian Top Team that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Battle is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ruttenum knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ruttenum is trying to get back to his feet.

Battle wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ruttenum, who protects the arm well.

Battle thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ruttenum is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Battle is controlling him well.

Battle tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Battle working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Battle tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Battle has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ruttenum wants to get back to his feet.
Battle tries to advance to mount but Ruttenum denies him.
Ruttenum wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Battle tries to move to mount but Ruttenum blocks the move with his legs.

Battle changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ruttenum looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Battle looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ruttenum tries to improve position but can't.
Ruttenum pushes Battle away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Battle gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Battle is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ruttenum is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Battle advances to full mount.
My spies in London MMA Club inform me that Battle has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Ruttenum really wants to buck Battle off and get back to his feet.

Battle goes for an armbar but Ruttenum turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ruttenum.
Ruttenum is looking to stand up but Battle won't let him.

Ruttenum avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ruttenum wants to stand and escape but instead Battle has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Battle passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Christian Battle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Ruttenum closes the distance and pushes Battle back into the cage.

Ruttenum gets control of Battle's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ruttenum will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ruttenum is looking to escape.
Battle passes to full mount!

Battle is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ruttenum to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ruttenum shrugs it off.
Ruttenum tries to lock up and control but Battle gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Battle fails to advance to Ruttenum's back.
Ruttenum wants to get back to his feet.
Battle has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ruttenum is trying to stand but he's just given Battle his back.

Ruttenum is squirming around looking to escape but he's just wriggling himself into more trouble. Battle sinks in the hooks and manages to tighten his grip on a rear naked choke. Ruttenum has no choice but to tap and Battle jumps to his feet to celebrate and slick submission win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Christian Battle!
