Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mookie Betts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Lopez!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Betts closes the distance and clinches up with Lopez, looking for a takedown. Betts pushes Lopez against the cage but Lopez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Betts looks to land a combination but Lopez avoids it well.
Betts leaves Lopez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Betts went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Lopez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Betts defends it nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Betts as Lopez shoots in.
Mookie Betts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Lopez.
Betts stuffs the takedown attempt from Lopez. Lopez gets slowly back to his feet.
It appears Betts was looking to counter with a kick there.

Betts throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lopez.
Lopez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Betts closes the distance and clinches.

Lopez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Betts fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Betts shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lopez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Sloppy strikes from Betts. Those never looked like landing.

Betts really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Betts moves into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lopez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Betts just stands there and leans against the cage.

Betts escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lopez slaps away a takedown attempt from Betts, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Betts looks for a takedown but Lopez sprawls well.
Lopez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Betts sprawls well. Betts wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lopez gets slowly back to his feet.

Betts changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lopez tries to avoid it but Betts manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lopez to the ground. Lopez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lopez tries to clinch but Betts moves out of range.
Betts shoots in looking for a takedown. Lopez tries to sprawl out of it but Betts keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lopez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Betts closes the distance and clinches.
Betts is trying to break free.

Lopez is fighting off a takedown attempt but Betts is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Lopez to the mat. Lopez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Lopez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Betts trying to control but Lopez is working from the bottom.
Lopez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Betts working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Betts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Betts slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Lopez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Betts shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lopez's guard.

Betts dives in for a single leg takedown but Lopez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Lopez is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Lopez wants to stand up but Betts has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Lopez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Betts isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Lopez stacks Betts on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Lopez!

That was a close second round but I would say that Mookie Betts will probably get the nod.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lopez misses with a takedown attempt - Betts sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lopez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Betts looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and Betts counters by clinching up.

Betts ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Betts no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Betts controls Lopez momentarily but Lopez frees himself.
Lopez wants to get up but he can't break Betts's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Betts manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Betts shoots in for a double leg but Lopez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lopez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Betts sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lopez somewhat.

Betts feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
