Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neal Brewer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Lawler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Neal Brewer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gary Lawler!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brewer fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lawler has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Lawler looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Lawler is trying hard to land a takedown here. Brewer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Brewer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lawler is just riding it out for now. Brewer eventually gives up the hold.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Lawler closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Brewer did well to prevent Lawler getting side control.

Brewer manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Lawler keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brewer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Lawler keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Brewer's efforts to push away.

Brewer dives in and grabs Lawler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lawler pushes down on Brewer's head and hops out.

Brewer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lawler tries to avoid it but Brewer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lawler to the ground. Lawler escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lawler stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lawler wants it to stay on the feet.

Lawler is trying to break the clinch but Brewer is controlling him.

Brewer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brewer is working Lawler over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Lawler tries to score a power double leg takedown but Brewer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lawler somewhat.

and Brewer counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Lawler is lucky that one didn't land flush.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brewer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lawler swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Brewer is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lawler's half guard.
Lawler is breathing heavily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brewer connects with a nice short shot to Lawler's temple.

Brewer is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lawler sees it coming and defends easily.
Lawler wants to control but Brewer is keeping busy.
Brewer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lawler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brewer is taking a breather. Lawler says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Brewer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Brewer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lawler as he avoids it easily.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lawler is defended easily by Brewer.

Brewer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lawler's waist but Lawler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brewer off to one side.
Lawler tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Neal Brewer.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Brewer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
