1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vincent Medici! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sampson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Medici is trying to defend but Sampson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Medici wants to get back to full guard. Still in half guard, Sampson seems content to control. Medici wants to get back to full guard. Medici is pressing down on Sampson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Sampson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Medici works some decent striking defense from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sampson throwing strikes from guard but Medici blocks nicely. Medici is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's one minute gone in the round. Medici is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sampson is controlling him. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sampson works over Medici with some ground and pound from guard. Sampson throws a sloppy strike and Medici has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Sampson is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Medici!
