Panado kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Lorde - Team . Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maicol Raul!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raul leaves Panado with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Panado fails to land the takedown.
Raul drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Panado defends it well.
No joy there for Panado, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And Raul tries to counter it with a takedown but Panado pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Ernesto Panado seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Panado scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Raul tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Panado wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Panado tries to advance to mount but Raul denies him.
Panado moves into full mount!

Raul defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Panado.
Raul bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Raul wants to stand but Panado is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
My spies in Animal House inform me that Raul has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Raul decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Panado changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Raul tries to avoid it but Panado manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Raul to the ground. Raul escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Raul feints the counter takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ernesto Panado. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A punch combination from Raul misses.

Panado drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Raul is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Panado moves into full mount!
Raul throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Panado has control of Raul's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Raul regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Raul is desperately trying to improve his position but Panado has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Raul wants to hold on but Panado pushes him away.

Panado wants to finish this one by submission but Raul is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Panado.

Panado jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Raul manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Panado is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Raul is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Raul is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Panado has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Panado jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Raul manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Raul wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Panado is working for a guillotine from mount but Raul frees his head quite easily.
Raul really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Raul really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Panado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Panado with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Panado working for a guillotine from mount but Raul is in no mood to give up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Raul is wriggling around trying to escape.
Raul throwing hammer fists to the chest of Panado. What's that going to do exactly?

Panado quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Panado but it's paid off an Raul is forced to tap! Nice work by Panado.
