Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andreas Schmelzer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andreas Schmelzer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dan Iron!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmelzer lands a head kick!
Iron takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Horrible takedown attempt by Iron or perhaps it was just good defense by Schmelzer, which made it look bad.

Iron gets a clinch.
Iron stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Iron slows down the pace here.
Schmelzer is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Iron to keep the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Iron changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Schmelzer fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Iron shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Schmelzer but Schmelzer pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Schmelzer half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Iron had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Schmelzer defends it easily.

Schmelzer looking to sit in guard and control but Iron gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Iron is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Schmelzer lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Schmelzer won't allow Iron to sweep him here.

Iron really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schmelzer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Schmelzer is looking to take a break and control but Iron is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round but I would say that Andreas Schmelzer will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Iron moves into the clinch.
Iron lands with a short shot to the head.
Schmelzer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Schmelzer tries for a takedown but Iron manages to get underhooks.
Iron displaying some good clinch control by pressing Schmelzer up against the cage.
Iron tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Schmelzer just stands there and leans against the cage.
Iron lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Iron pulls Schmelzer in to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Iron dodges the ground and pound from Schmelzer.
Schmelzer looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Schmelzer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Iron keeps working.
Iron sneaks back into half guard.
Iron wants to improve his position but Schmelzer is controlling well.

Schmelzer is keen to just control but Iron is a slippery customer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Schmelzer lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Iron fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Iron avoids the head kick by Schmelzer.

Iron has taken the fight to the clinch.
Iron gets through Schmelzer's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Iron swings wildly with an uppercut but Schmelzer uses good head movement to avoid it.

Schmelzer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andreas Schmelzer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Iron takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Dan Iron showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Schmelzer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


That kick from Schmelzer tenderised Iron's leg. Iron is trying to keep his angry face on.

Iron pulls Schmelzer in close to his closed guard and prevents Schmelzer from doing any damage or advancing position.

Iron is not content to let Schmelzer control the position.
Andreas Schmelzer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Schmelzer is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Iron is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Iron is looking for a sweep.
Schmelzer is looking to take a break and control but Iron is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Schmelzer is really struggling to control Iron but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Iron tries to score a power double leg takedown but Schmelzer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Iron somewhat.
Andreas Schmelzer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Iron.
Iron moves in looking to clinch but Schmelzer pushes him off.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Iron tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Schmelzer counters with a low kick, right behind Iron 's knee.
Dan Iron seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Iron has closed the distance and engaged Schmelzer in a clinch.

Schmelzer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Schmelzer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Schmelzer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Iron forces his way into half guard.
Iron takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Iron not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Schmelzer moves into full guard.
Iron slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Dan Iron.
I think Iron has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
