Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rua kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Slayed. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten shoots in for a double leg but Rua sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

It looks like Bas Rutten has been cut.
Rua misses with a few strikes there.

Rutten shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Rutten looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rua has picked Rutten up and slammed him! Rutten can't keep hold of the triangle and Rua manages to pass to side control!

Rua has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Rua swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rutten tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rutten shoots in but Rua avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rua throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A head kick from Rua lands but Rutten takes it in his stride.

Rutten scores with a takedown into Rua's guard.
Rutten is looking to advance position but Rua has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Rutten flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Rua in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Rutten is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rua looking to control but Rutten is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rutten is looking to improve his position but Rua isn't that keen on the idea.

Rua takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rua can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rutten is looking to escape.

Rua prevents Rutten from getting the reversal.
Rua trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Rutten is desperately trying to improve his position but Rua has a good base and remains in mount.

Rua catches Rutten with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Rua connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rutten. Rutten circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rua lands a head kick that stumbles Rutten and the fighters go to the mat.

Rutten is rocked!

That has opened up Bas Rutten's cut even more.

Rutten is working an open guard so Rua takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Rutten shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rua as he avoids it easily.
Rutten is breathing heavily.
Rua throws a hook to the side of Rutten's head but Rutten sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Rua throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Rua turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Rua throws the left hand but Rutten avoids the punch easily.
Rua throws a right hand that Rutten ducks under and follows up with a left that Rutten also avoids with ease.
Rutten lands with a slapping head kick.

Rua scores with a hook.

The cut above Bas Rutten's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
A solid leg kick lands there for Rua.
Some wild striking there from Rua.
Rutten has a takedown stuffed.
Mauricio Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bas Rutten.
Rua throws a hook but Rutten blocks it.

Rua jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rutten fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rua lands a head kick. Rutten smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Bas Rutten's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Bas Rutten's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
