Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rudolph Gilliam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerald Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerald Dean has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rudolph Gilliam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gerald Dean!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gilliam gets a takedown into half guard.

Gilliam stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Dean to get to his feet.

Gilliam gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dean to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Gilliam scrambles and gets back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gilliam enables Dean to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gilliam manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dean decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gilliam, up you get!

Dean feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gilliam has his foot on Dean's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dean works his way back into a safe position though.

Gilliam is working an open guard so Dean takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gilliam or perhaps it was just good defense by Dean, which made it look bad.

Dean shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Dean stops Gilliam from getting back to his feet.

Gilliam tries to roll over but Dean keeps him under control.

Gilliam wants to control but Dean is keeping busy.
Dean is trying to control. Gilliam wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dean wants to stand but Gilliam has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Dean closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Gilliam is trying to get back to half guard.
Gilliam is trying to control Dean's posture but Dean avoids it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Gilliam's face as Dean controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gilliam is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gerald Dean will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Rudolph Gilliam's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Dean moves into the clinch.
Gilliam jumps guard but Dean turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Gilliam lands a takedown into guard.
Dean is wriggling around but Gilliam manages to pass to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dean is trying to stand up here but Gilliam is controlling him well.

Gilliam decides to stand and escape the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Dean.

Dean trying to control the position but Gilliam is working away.
Gilliam tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Dean stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Dean closes the distance and clinches.

Gilliam is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dean is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gilliam to the mat. Gilliam regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Dean must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dean gets to his feet. Gilliam looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Gilliam misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dean is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Dean shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Gilliam has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dean is working away from the top position though.
Gilliam tries to roll over but Dean keeps him under control.
Dean wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gilliam keeps working.
Dean is taking a breather. Gilliam says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gilliam moves into full guard.
Gilliam really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gilliam is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Dean gets to his feet - Gilliam follows without any prompting.
Gilliam doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dean counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rudolph Gilliam. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gerald Dean showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dean decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dean looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Gilliam has one foot on Dean's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Dean gets the takedown into side control.

Gilliam explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rudolph Gilliam overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dean stalling.
Gilliam is looking to control Dean's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gilliam avoid being mounted?
Dean tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Dean is looking to take a break and control but Gilliam is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dean content to control rather than advance.
Gilliam is looking to escape.

Dean decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Gilliam rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dean moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Dean fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gilliam to the ground. Dean is now in Gilliam's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dean decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Gilliam shoots in and drives through. Dean sprawls well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dean slaps away a takedown attempt from Gilliam, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gilliam blocks a head kick by Dean.

Dean feints and as Gilliam raises his hands in defense, Dean changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gilliam looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dean stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Dean lands with a kick to the temple. Gilliam shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Dean shoots in and bounces Gilliam off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dean sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Gilliam is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dean defends well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gerald Dean comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dean has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
