Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ezequiel Wilkinson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pablo Esco! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Esco changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Wilkinson throws a low kick but Esco moves out of range easily. Wilkinson lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Wilkinson gets a double leg takedown into Esco's guard. Wilkinson works over Esco with some ground and pound from guard. Wilkinson works over Esco with some ground and pound from guard. That's one minute gone in the round. Esco throws a series of punches but Wilkinson moves out of range. Wilkinson jabbing away but nothing is landing. Wilkinson throws a low kick but Esco avoids it. Esco misses with a few strikes there.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Esco enables Wilkinson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Esco manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Esco is wriggling around but Wilkinson manages to pass to half guard.
Esco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wilkinson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wilkinson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Esco sees it coming and defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilkinson winds up and cracks Esco with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Wilkinson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Wilkinson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Wilkinson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Esco defend it? Wilkinson steps over the head and cranks it - Esco is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Wilkinson!
