PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tom Jane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell has chosen It's Dark and Hell Is Hot as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Jane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 57 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jane fails with a takedown attempt.
Jane shoots in but Liddell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Liddell scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Liddell misses with a hook. Jane ducked under it nicely.

Liddell gets a takedown into half guard.
Jane is looking to get back to is feet but Liddell passes into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Liddell takes a little break here. Jane wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jane tries to bench press Liddell off him but Liddell keeps the position.
Jane is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Jane wants to control but Liddell is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Still in half guard, Liddell seems content to control.
Jane is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Liddell's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Liddell's back!
Jane punches the canvas rather than the man.
Liddell looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Liddell rolls, trying to escape but Jane keeps control of the position.
Liddell rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Liddell gets back to full guard.
Liddell keeping moving, preventing Jane from controlling successfully.
Jane has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jane in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jane postures up in Liddell's guard and throws a big left but Liddell blocks it.
Liddell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jane is one step ahead there.
Jane trying to control but Liddell is working from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Liddell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jane makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jane.

Liddell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Liddell stuffs the takedown.
Liddell wants to counter the offense by Jane and move into the clinch position.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tom Jane. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Liddell stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jane shoots for a double leg takedown but Liddell sprawls well. He's pushed Jane's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jane misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jane sets himself, and Liddell steps forward looking for the clinch! Jane avoids it this time.
Jane fails to land the takedown.
Liddell steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Jane.

Liddell misses with a wild body shot.
Jane shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Liddell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jane was well out of range. Poor timing from Liddell.
Liddell throws a quick inside leg kick.

Jane has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jane tries to pull guard but Liddell won't allow it.
Jane is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Liddell to keep the fight standing.

Jane goes for a takedown attempt but Liddell pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Liddell clinches.
Liddell keeps control of Jane as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Liddell is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jane is defending well for now.
Liddell scores with a nice hook to the head.
Liddell lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Jane fails to pull guard.
Jane goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Liddell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Jane is trying to pull guard but Liddell turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Liddell takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Jane tries to break the clinch but Liddell is controlling the position.
Jane goes for a takedown attempt but Liddell pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Jane has managed to clinch.
Jane tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Liddell just stands there and leans against the cage.
Liddell putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Jane in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Jane is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Liddell to keep the fight standing.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Liddell as Jane tries to tie him up.
Liddell has Jane pressed against the cage, preventing Jane from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Jane throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Liddells head.
Liddell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jane's efforts to push away.
Jane tries to pull guard but Liddell holds him up against the cage and eventually Jane drops back down to his feet.

Liddell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Liddell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Liddell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Chuck Liddell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Jane tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Liddell swivels and escapes.
Liddell appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Jane is trying to drag Liddell to the mat but Liddell just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Jane tries to score a body lock takedown but Liddell shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Liddell jumps guard.
Liddell wants to sweep here but Jane controlling him for the moment.
Liddell is pulling down on Jane's head. It's preventing any offense from Jane, at least for the moment.

Liddell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Liddell is trying for a kimura here. Jane looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Liddell wins by kimura!
