Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alvin Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Earl!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garcia looking to score a takedown here. Earl is defending well but Garcia drives through and ends up in Earl's guard.
Garcia tries to stand but Earl is controlling from the bottom.
Garcia content to stall in guard here.
Garcia trying to stand up but can't free himself from Earl's guard.

Earl is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Garcia is aware though and is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Earl tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Garcia wants to stand but Earl is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Garcia looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Earl!

Garcia avoids the body shot from Earl.
Earl closes the distance and clinches up with Garcia, looking for a takedown. Earl pushes Garcia against the cage but Garcia circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Garcia slaps away a takedown attempt from Earl, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Garcia half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Earl has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
James Earl seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Earl looks winded!

Garcia scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Garcia tries to stand but Earl is controlling his head.
Earl is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Garcia asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Earl tries to get back to half guard but can't.

What's Earl going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Garcia wants to stand but Earl has his arm trapped.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Earl is looking for a sweep.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Earl connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Garcia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Garcia dives in and scores a takedown into Earl's guard.

Earl is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Garcia presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Earl is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Garcia pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Alvin Garcia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Earl.
Garcia misses with a hook to the ribs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Garcia has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Earl keeps control of Garcia as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Garcia tries to bum rush Earl with a series of wild strikes but Earl uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That was a close round but I would say that Alvin Garcia will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Earl wants to improve his position but Garcia is controlling well.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Earl has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Garcia is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Garcia throws a right and a left that Earl avoids nicely.
Earl changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Alvin Garcia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Earl closes the distance and clinches.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Garcia is working Earl over against the cage.
Earl is breathing heavily.
Earl tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Garcia just stands there and leans against the cage.

Earl manages to break the clinch.

Garcia darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Earl is looking to get back to is feet but Garcia passes into side control.
Earl struggling a bit here.
Earl tries to improve position but can't.

A control attempt from Earl but he's now mounted!
Earl tries to hold on but Garcia pushes him away.
Garcia controlling from the full mount.
Earl is looking to get to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's time! Garcia's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Garcia shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Earl but Earl pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Garcia displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Earl.
No luck for Earl with that takedown attempt.

Earl has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Garcia uses from the top position.
Garcia has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Garcia fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Earl avoids it really well and circles away.

Garcia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Earl's guard.

Alvin Garcia is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Garcia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
James Earl has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Garcia would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Garcia, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
