The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson closes the distance looking to clinch
and Ponjev counters with a takedown into side control.
Jackson is looking for a sweep.
Ponjev working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Jackson gets back to half guard.
Ponjev prevents Jackson from improving his position.
Ponjev drops an elbow to the side of Jackson's head.
Ponjev is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Jackson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ponjev pulls his head out easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ponjev lands a nice short elbow.
Jackson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ponjev is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
It looks like Ponjev might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Ponjev fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Ponjev has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ponjev is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Jackson goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Ponjev!

After winning the bout, Sam Ponjev thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
