PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ciro Ghetta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcel Cavendish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ciro Ghetta had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ciro Ghetta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcel Cavendish!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Reed Andrews and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cavendish misses with a straight left.
Ghetta lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Cavendish has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Cavendish swings for the body but Ghetta moves out of range.
Cavendish pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ghetta lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

and Ghetta counters with a shoot takedown. Cavendish fights it but they end up in guard.

Ghetta has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cavendish is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ghetta.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cavendish throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ghetta stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and Ghetta counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

It looks like Ciro Ghetta has been cut.

Ghetta throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Cavendish on the side of the head.
Ghetta throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Cavendish pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ghetta back to the cage. Cavendish follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Ciro Ghetta is winning the standup battle so far.
A punch lands to the side of Ghetta 's head but he takes it in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ghetta drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Cavendish regains half guard, as Ghetta was trying to land strikes.

Ghetta is trying to work for a kimura but Cavendish is defending well.
Ghetta stalling away here and it's allowed Cavendish to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Ghetta is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Ghetta postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ciro Ghetta.
I think Ghetta has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
