PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Travis Zero!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Zero is fending him off so far but Velasquez persists. Nope, Zero circles away and we're back to standing.

Zero shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zero drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Zero jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zero goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Velasquez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Zero but great work by Velasquez.

Velasquez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zero is working away from the top position though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Velasquez shoots in for a double leg but Zero sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Velasquez pivots, looking for a leg kick but Zero is out of range and Velasquez settles back down.
Velasquez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zero paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Velasquez stalks Zero and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Zero's face. Zero staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Travis Zero has been cut.

Zero is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Velasquez to keep the fight standing.

Velasquez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Zero takes one to the chin there.
Zero doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Velasquez misses with a takedown attempt
and Zero counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Zero has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Zero stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Velasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Velasquez clinches up with Zero and pushes him back against the cage.
Velasquez tries to break free but Zero pushes him back against the cage.
Velasquez is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Velasquez wants to break the clinch but can't.
Zero gets underhooks to prevent Velasquez's takedown attempt.

Velasquez is trying to force a seperation but Zero has the dominant position.
Velasquez will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Zero up against the cage.
Velasquez misses with an elbow over the top.
Velasquez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Zero smiles and moves away.

Zero feints and as Velasquez raises his hands in defense, Zero changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Velasquez manages to escape and get back to his feet.

A shot to the liver by Velasquez. Beautiful body shot.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zero sprawls well. Zero wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
Zero shoots in for a takedown but Velasquez shows good takedown defense.
Velasquez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Velasquez dives in and grabs Zero's left leg, looking for a takedown. Zero pushes down on Velasquez's head and hops out.
Zero avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Zero looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Zero shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Velasquez as he avoids it easily.
Velasquez seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Horrible takedown attempt by Velasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Zero, which made it look bad.
Zero throws out a counter right but Velasquez avoids it with no problem.
Velasquez wants to clinch up but Zero keeps it at a distance.
Zero swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Velasquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Zero avoids it really well and circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Velasquez looks to score with a jab to the body but Zero is just out of range.
Velasquez misses with a low kick as Zero jumps back.
Zero throws a counter combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Velasquez dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Travis Zero's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Velasquez closes the distance and pushes Zero back into the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Velasquez's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Velasquez is pressed up against the cage. Zero has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Velasquez down to the mat. Velasquez avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Velasquez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Zero has him pressed against the cage.

Velasquez jumps guard and drags Zero to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Zero drops back, looking for a kneebar! Velasquez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Velasquez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Velasquez!

Zero is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Velasquez off and has taken his back!

Velasquez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Zero is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Velasquez tries to break free.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Zero patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Zero is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Velasquez defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Zero has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Velasquez is defending well but eventually Zero manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Velasquez has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Travis Zero!
