Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Vermeulen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vermeulen comes to the cage accompanied by Born to be Wild. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Vermeulen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Calvin Jones! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vermeulen takes the fight into the clinch. Vermeulen breaks from the clinch.
Jones shoots in but Vermeulen avoids the takedown attempt easily. Horrible takedown attempt by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Vermeulen, which made it look bad. Jones looks to land a right hand but Vermeulen moved out of range. Vermeulen is looking for a counter combo. Vermeulen fails in his attempt to clinch. Vermeulen throws a head kick that Jones semi-blocks.
Vermeulen wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side so Jones counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Jones wants to pass the guard but Vermeulen is keeping the position. Jones won't allow Vermeulen to get back to his feet. Jones stays in close to Vermeulen's body and controls the position. It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Jones works over Vermeulen with some ground and pound from guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vermeulen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Jones with a nice head shot there. Vermeulen wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it. Jones trying to control but Vermeulen is working from the bottom. Jones distracts Vermeulen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Jones throwing strikes from guard but Vermeulen blocks nicely. Vermeulen keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully. Vermeulen is looking to stand back up but Jones counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Vermeulen. Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vermeulen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Jones lands strikes from half guard. Vermeulen is trying to stand up here but Jones is controlling him well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Jones controlling the action here. Vermeulen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vermeulen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jones keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Vermeulen is defending well.
Jones landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Jones is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Vermeulen wants to get back to his feet. Vermeulen is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard. Vermeulen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.

Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Vermeulen seems to have got his legs back now. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vermeulen with a short hammerfist. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Calvin Jones dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Vermeulen tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range. Vermeulen tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Vermeulen is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jones is controlling him well. Jones lands a few punches from side control. Jones prevents Vermeulen from escaping the position. Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Jones works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Jones lands a nice forearm strike. Jones is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vermeulen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jones is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Vermeulen is trying to escape and Jones transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Vermeulen is forced to tap! Nice work there by Jones! Very nice indeed!
