Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mitsu Hide! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Smith! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Hide. No joy for Smith on that attempt. Hide tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance. James Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hide tries to move into range but Smith moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
It looks like Mitsu Hide has been cut. Hide defending well as Smith loads up on a big left hand. Hide really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Hide can't do much from the bottom here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hide manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Hide makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hide. Smith passes Hide's left leg - he's now in half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Hide has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though. Smith not doing much here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Hide is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smith is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Hide tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg. Hide trying to control here.
Smith wants to pass to mount but Hide is defending the position. Hide has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Smith has managed to clinch.
Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Hide is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hide looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there. Hide is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Smith throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hide is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hide is looking to sinch up a triangle. Smith throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Hide's body to avoid the submission. Hide has instead reached around Smith's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Hide arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
