Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bryce Pate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ootis Mims! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mims swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Pate counters by clinching up. Pate is working for takedown but Mims is calmly controlling the position for now. Mims wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mims is looking to break free of the clinch but Pate has double underhooks. Pate keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mims's efforts to push away. Mims is trying to break free. Pate keeps control of Mims as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Mims wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pate has him pressed against the cage. Mims wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Pate tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Mims is trying to break free. Pate is looking for a takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pate slowing the pace effectively. That's one minute gone in the round. Pate creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Mims's defenses. Mims wants to break free but Pate has control.
Mims looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Pate is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Mims is looking to break free of the clinch but Pate has double underhooks. Mims has had enough of the clinch but Pate keeps him there for the moment. Mims wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mims with a jab. A clash of legs there as Pate blocks the low kick. Pate avoids the body shot from Mims.
Pate has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Pate there as he acknowledges the shot. Mims scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Mims throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Pate has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Pate slips a jab and a cross from Mims.
Ootis Mims seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mims misses with a jab, cross combination.

and Pate counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Pate breaks from the clinch.
A jab from Mims does it's job there. Mims missing with a left hand there. Pate was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Some wild striking there from Pate.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Mims.

Pate wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pate moves into range and clinches up with Mims. Mims is trying to break the clinch but Pate is controlling him. Mims is trying to break the clinch but Pate is controlling him. Pate lands a damaging elbow. Pate scores a nice knee to the body.
Pate's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Pate content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Pate seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Pate comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Pate is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Mims working hard to break the clinch. Pate prevents Mims from breaking the clinch. Pate has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mims uses from the top position. Pate looking for subs off his back but Mims has passed one foot through into half guard.
Mims stalling away here and it's allowed Pate to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pate trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Mims trying to control the position from guard on top but Pate is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mims is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mims accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ootis Mims will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mims misses with an uppercut. Pate saw that one coming. As Mims tries to get set, Pate tries to push him back and clinch up but Mims manages to avoid the attempt. The fighters circle momentarily. Mims darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Pate throws a head kick that misses. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mims stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mims lands with an uppercut that bounces Pate off the cage and back into range. Pate looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Mims connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mims looks to land a combination but Pate avoids it well. Pate changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Pate ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
That's one minute gone in the round. A low kick from Mims misses and Pate counters with a nice double leg into guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mims can do anything to dispel that myth. Pate scoring with punches to the head and body. Pate content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Pate landing with the ground and pound. Pate content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Mims wants to hit a switch here but Pate passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mims there! Mims is trying to escape the mount.
Mims really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pate. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Pate has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Mims is forced to tap!
