PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Keisuke Atoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Komatsu Akiaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Akiaki's choice of entrance music: Enter the Dragon. Komatsu Akiaki is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Keisuke Atoshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Komatsu Akiaki!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Akiaki.
Atoshi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Akiaki keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Atoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Akiaki swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Akiaki feints and as Atoshi raises his hands in defense, Akiaki changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Atoshi is looking to stand back up but Akiaki counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Atoshi.
Akiaki wants to stand up but Atoshi is controlling the position.
Akiaki missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Akiaki takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Atoshi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Atoshi is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Akiaki pulls his head out easily.

Atoshi is pressing down on Akiaki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Atoshi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Akiaki manages to get himself to full guard.
Akiaki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Atoshi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Akiaki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Akiaki is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Atoshi is controlling him.
Atoshi trying to control the position from guard on top but Akiaki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Atoshi is breathing heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Akiaki is trying to control the position but Atoshi postures up.
Akiaki has a closed guard, preventing Atoshi from standing up.
Akiaki is trying to keep Atoshi in close.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Atoshi has his takedown stuffed

and Akiaki decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Atoshi's guard.

Akiaki wants to control from the top but Atoshi keeps moving.

Akiaki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Akiaki throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Atoshi works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Atoshi is trying to stand up here but Akiaki is controlling him well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Atoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Akiaki swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Keisuke Atoshi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Atoshi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Akiaki pulls his leg out and moves away.
Atoshi shoots in for a takedown but Akiaki shows good takedown defense.
Atoshi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Atoshi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Akiaki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Akiaki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Akiaki wants to control from the top but Atoshi keeps moving.

Atoshi lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Akiaki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Atoshi has his foot on Akiaki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Akiaki works his way back into a safe position though.
Akiaki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Komatsu Akiaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Atoshi throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

so Akiaki counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Akiaki is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atoshi wants to get back to his feet but Akiaki is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Akiaki wants to get up but he can't break Atoshi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Akiaki stuffs the takedown attempt from Atoshi. Atoshi gets slowly back to his feet.
Komatsu Akiaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Akiaki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Atoshi swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Akiaki feints and as Atoshi raises his hands in defense, Akiaki changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Atoshi looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Akiaki has picked Atoshi up and slammed him! Atoshi can't keep hold of the triangle and Akiaki manages to pass to side control!

Atoshi is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Akiaki asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Akiaki decides to stand up, so the ref orders Atoshi to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Akiaki has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Akiaki there as he acknowledges the shot.

and Akiaki counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Akiaki.
Akiaki is pushing Atoshi up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Atoshi is trying to drag Akiaki to the mat but Akiaki just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Well Akiaki has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
