Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eshkar Gabai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Ivanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eshkar Gabai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Ivanov!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ivanov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gabai circles away from the clinch attempt.

Gabai shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ivanov's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gabai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gabai looking to pass the guard.
Gabai loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gabai works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Gabai slips a nice elbow through Ivanov's hands, connecting with Ivanov's forehead.
Gabai throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Gabai is looking to advance position but Ivanov won't allow it.

Gabai throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gabai trying to control from half guard but Ivanov is working away.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gabai shoots in looking for a takedown. Ivanov tries to sprawl out of it but Gabai keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ivanov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ivanov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gabai throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ivanov.
Ivanov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Gabai gets a takedown into half guard.
Gabai looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ivanov is trying to maintain the position but Gabai is very close to passing his half guard.
Gabai is looking to pass Ivanov's guard but actually Ivanov recovers to full guard.

Gabai trying to control the position from guard on top but Ivanov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gabai with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gabai has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gabai controls from within his opponent's guard.
Gabai trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ivanov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gabai.
Gabai postures up in Ivanov's guard and throws a big left but Ivanov blocks it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gabai circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ivanov moves in looking to clinch but Gabai pushes him off.
Gabai shoots in for a double leg but Ivanov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Good leg kick by Ivanov there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Gabai is breathing heavily.
Gabai swinging wilding here.
Ivanov lands the left hand.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ivanov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ivanov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ivanov tries to close the distance and clinch but Gabai swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ivanov wants to clinch.
Ivanov tries to clinch up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eshkar Gabai dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ivanov tries to clinch there but Gabai circles away.
Gabai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ivanov moves in looking to clinch but Gabai pushes him off.
Ivanov tries to clinch up but Gabai circles away and keeps his distance.

Gabai shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gabai was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Gabai can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ivanov is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gabai postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ivanov looks a forlorn figure.
Ivanov is looking to get to half guard.

Ivanov controls the position.
Ivanov wants to control but Gabai is having none of it.
Ivanov suckers Gabai into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Ivanov is now in Gabai's guard!
Gabai looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ivanov puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Gabai is looking to improve his position.
Gabai might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gabai gets full guard.
Gabai is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ivanov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gabai is working away from the top position though.
Ivanov wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gabai is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gabai trying to mount his opponent but Ivanov defends it.

Gabai with the ground and pound but Ivanov uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Ivanov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ivanov preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ivanov is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gabai is controlling him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Gabai shoots in and bounces Ivanov off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Gabai trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Gabai looking to pass the guard.
Ivanov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gabai advances position into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gabai goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ivanov rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gabai's guard! Nice work there by Ivanov!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eshkar Gabai dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Ivanov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Gabai counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ivanov won't be happy with that.
Ivanov regains half guard there - taking advantage of Gabai's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Well, if Gabai is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gabai is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gabai is looking to take a break and control but Ivanov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ivanov is looking for a sweep. Gabai is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ivanov clinches but Gabai breaks the clinch

and Gabai counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gabai trying to control from Ivanov's half guard. Ivanov has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Gabai looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Gabai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ivanov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ivanov keeping moving, preventing Gabai from controlling successfully.
Gabai throwing strikes from guard but Ivanov blocks nicely.
Gabai throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ivanov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gabai throws and elbow that misses. Ivanov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gabai's guard. Nice move by Ivanov!
Gabai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ivanov is one step ahead there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ivan Ivanov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Gabai counters with a single leg into guard. Ivanov didn't expect that.
Gabai throwing strikes but missing.
Gabai being controlled here momentarily.
Eshkar Gabai is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Gabai trying to control the position from guard on top but Ivanov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eshkar Gabai showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gabai, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
