PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Burdoch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Bowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trevor Burdoch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Bowman!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowman moves in looking to clinch but Burdoch pushes him off.
Trevor Burdoch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bowman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bowman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Burdoch did well to prevent Bowman getting side control.
Bowman wants to free his trapped foot but Burdoch is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Well, if Bowman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bowman with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Let's hope that Bowman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Burdoch knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bowman on the ground.

Bowman is trying to work for a kimura but Burdoch is defending well.
Bowman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Burdoch with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Burdoch keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bowman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Bowman trying to pass the guard but Burdoch defending well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Burdoch is looking for a sweep. Bowman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Burdoch avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bowman.
Still in half guard, Bowman seems content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bowman has his takedown stuffed

and Burdoch counters by clinching up.
Burdoch is stalling here.
Burdoch crunches a lovely knee into Bowman's ribcage.

Burdoch looking to stall.
Bowman can't break the clinch.
Burdoch holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Burdoch connects with a knee to the head.
Burdoch lands a nice uppercut.
Burdoch is pressed up against the cage. Bowman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Burdoch down to the mat. Burdoch avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Bowman doesn't manage to clinch there - Burdoch circles away.
Bowman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Trevor Burdoch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Bowman.

Bowman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bowman is controlling the pace.

Bowman throwing shots but Burdoch is blocking nicely.
Burdoch on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Burdoch tries to get out of the position.

Bowman slows the pace down in half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bowman tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nate Bowman will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bowman tries to score with a low kick but Burdoch moves his leg out of the way.
Bowman tries for a takedown but Burdoch sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Burdoch moves into range and clinches up with Bowman.
A knee to the head by Burdoch.
Burdoch tries a knee to the head but Bowman blocks it.
Bowman is trying to break the clinch but Burdoch has him pressed against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Burdoch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Burdoch - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Bowman is trying to force a seperation but Burdoch has the dominant position.
Burdoch with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Burdoch is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bowman can do to turn this around?

Bowman struggles to land a body shot inside as Burdoch controls his hands.
Bowman jumps guard but Burdoch stands there with Bowman around his waist. Bowman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Trevor Burdoch has scored more points in the clinch so far.

Burdoch scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Bowman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Burdoch walks away with a smile on his face. Bowman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Trevor Burdoch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Bowman.

Burdoch takes the fight into the clinch.
Burdoch landing knees to the head.
Burdoch tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Burdoch lands a knee to the head.
Bowman tries to pull guard but Burdoch forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Bowman tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Burdoch smiles and moves away.
Burdoch keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bowman fails with a takedown attempt.
Burdoch closes the distance but Bowman moves to the side

and Bowman counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bowman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bowman is stalling in the full guard.
Bowman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bowman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bowman is continuing to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bowman pushes down on Burdoch's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bowman wants to stand up but Burdoch is controlling the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bowman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Burdoch is fending him off so far but Bowman persists. Nope, Burdoch circles away and we're back to standing.

Bowman goes for a double leg but Burdoch avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Burdoch continues to drive forward.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bowman tries to throw a body punch but Burdoch avoids it by throwing Bowman back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Bowman dives in and grabs Burdoch's left leg, looking for a takedown. Burdoch pushes down on Bowman's head and hops out.

Burdoch closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bowman wants to get back to striking at distance but Burdoch won't allow it.
Burdoch scores with a knee to the head.
Burdoch with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Burdoch takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bowman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bowman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bowman passes into half guard.
Nate Bowman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bowman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bowman wants to stand but Burdoch has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bowman is working for a submission of some sort.
Well, if Bowman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Bowman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The fight stays on the outside here - Burdoch looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bowman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Trevor Burdoch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Bowman.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bowman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Burdoch's guard.
Bowman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Burdoch's guard.
Bowman not doing much here.

Bowman is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bowman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nate Bowman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bowman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
