PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andre Hendrix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Myres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hendrix kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Rage Against the Machine - Renegades of Funk. Shane Myres has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Andre Hendrix's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andre Hendrix!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Myres!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Myres darts in and clinches Hendrix up against the cage.

Hendrix ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hendrix no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Hendrix has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Myres can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hendrix looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hendrix looking for a sweep. Not yet Hendrix, not yet.

Myres thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hendrix has his foot on Myres's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Myres works his way back into a safe position though.

Myres drops back looking for a leg! Hendrix is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hendrix manages to kick Myres off! Myres jumps back into Hendrix's guard.

Hendrix is looking for a triangle but Myres pushes his legs off easily.

Hendrix could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Myres drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Myres jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hendrix is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Myres is aware though and is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Myres stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hendrix swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hendrix is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Myres defends well.

Hendrix escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Myres gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Myres thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hendrix working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Myres doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Myres manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hendrix tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Hendrix looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Myres is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hendrix throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Myres has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Hendrix to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Myres is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Hendrix pulls down on the head and he's put Myres to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Andre Hendrix!
Andre Hendrix is the new featherweight champion!
Andre Hendrix decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
The defeated Shane Myres had this to say: 'well that performance sucked. Sorry guys '.
