Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Kalai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rocky Bullwinkle! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kalai tries to keep at a distance but Bullwinkle has taken the fight into the clinch. Kalai has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bullwinkle avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Bullwinkle landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Bullwinkle crunches a lovely knee into Kalai's ribcage. Bullwinkle has Kalai pushed against the cage. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Bullwinkle obliges. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Bullwinkle takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Kalai has picked Bullwinkle up - he's going for a ride! Kalai dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Bullwinkle tries to roll over but Kalai keeps him under control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bullwinkle can do anything to dispel that myth. Bullwinkle pushes Kalai off looking to stand but Kalai dives back in and keeps control.
Kalai tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bullwinkle knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Bullwinkle tries to kick Kalai off but Kalai keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bullwinkle trying to control here.
Kalai stops Bullwinkle from getting back to his feet.
Kalai is looking for a kimura here.
Kalai is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bullwinkle is just riding it out for now. Kalai eventually gives up the hold. Bullwinkle is trying to stand back up but Kalai is controlling him
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Kalai trying to pass the guard but Bullwinkle defending well. Bullwinkle is in trouble now - Kalai has advanced to mount! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kalai cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Bullwinkle can't escape the position.
Bullwinkle is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Bullwinkle is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bullwinkle can't escape the position.
Kalai connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Bullwinkle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kalai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kalai is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Kalai extends the arm and Bullwinkle is forced to tap!
