PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Volchenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pari Jakh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Volchenko comes to the cage accompanied by Roar of the Lion. On his way into the cage it seems that Ivan Volchenko has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ivan Volchenko seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Volchenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pari Jakh!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jakh throws a series of strikes that have Volchenko backpedaling.
Volchenko cracks Jakh with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like Pari Jakh has been cut.
Volchenko swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Jakh counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Jakh displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Volchenko throws out the jab.
Jakh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Volchenko as he jumps to the side.

Volchenko definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jakh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ivan Volchenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pari Jakh.

Volchenko clinches up with Jakh and pushes him back against the cage.
Jakh wants to get back to striking at distance but Volchenko won't allow it.

Volchenko jumps guard and drags Jakh to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Volchenko has Jakh pulled in close to control his posture.

Volchenko stands and steps away. Jakh gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jakh tries to keep at a distance but Volchenko has taken the fight into the clinch.
Volchenko comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Volchenko obliges.

Volchenko works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Volchenko wants to control from the top but Jakh keeps moving.

Volchenko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Volchenko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Volchenko postures up and lands a big shot to Jakh's brow.

Volchenko is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Volchenko distracts Jakh with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Volchenko passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Volchenko tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Volchenko has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Volchenko is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jakh is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Volchenko tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Jakh is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Volchenko moves into the clinch successfully.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jakh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Volchenko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Volchenko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Volchenko is landing with some decent strikes but Jakh is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The cut above Pari Jakh's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Volchenko postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Jakh in real trouble here! The ref calls for Jakh to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ivan Volchenko!
A determined Ivan Volchenko didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
