PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tarmo Hovi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matas Sulinskas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hovi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Vesa-Matti Loiri - Armo. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
25 - 17 - 1, fighting out of London, Tarmo Hovi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Matas Sulinskas!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hovi stuffs the takedown.
Hovi attempts a counter takedown but Sulinskas avoids it well and moves away.
Hovi throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sulinskas on the side of the head.

and Hovi holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Hovi throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Sulinskass head.

Sulinskas's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Sulinskas changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hovi fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Tarmo Hovi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matas Sulinskas.
Hovi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sulinskas looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sulinskas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hovi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hovi lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sulinskas down.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sulinskas can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sulinskas is trying to improve his position.

Sulinskas taking a bit of punishment here - Hovi scoring with strikes.
Hovi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sulinskas is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hovi has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Hovi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sulinskas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Sulinskas takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Hovi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A lull in the action here as Hovi stalls from top position.
Hovi is working to tighten his grip on Sulinskas's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sulinskas has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Hovi is really squeezing tight and eventually Sulinskas passes out! Hovi breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Tarmo Hovi gave a mention to Perkele! in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
Matas Sulinskas was interviewed post fight and said 'HE FUCKING CHEATED'.
